Utah Valley's baseball team prepares for its game versus Cal State BakersfieldUtah Valley fell 8-2 to Cal State Bakersfield in the series finale on Saturday afternoon at Hardt Field. UVU (14-16) scored first, but the Runners (13-18) scored eight unanswered runs and came up with timely hits to get the finale. Kaden Carpenter, Chipper Beck, and DJ Massey all finished with two hits in the contest.
The Wolverines opened the scoring in the first inning after Kaden Carpenter singled with one out in the inning, and Mason Strong’s double to right-center put two runners in scoring position. Chipper Beck recorded an RBI on a sacrifice fly to put UVU up 1-0.
The CSUB pitching staff was tough on the Wolverines, only allowing more hits through the first five innings, with DJ Massey recording a single back in the first inning and a double in the fifth inning.
The Roadrunners took a 4-1 lead after the second inning when they took advantage of a couple of fielding errors in the first two frames, and in the second extended the lead on a double by Evan Cloyd.
Utah Valley looked to rally in the sixth after a two-out infield single by Beck before Mason Hamlin doubled down the right-field line to put two in scoring position. They would not get a run across but did do so in the seventh inning. After a leadoff double by Will Applegate, they immediately had a runner in scoring position, and he scored on a fielding error later in the inning to cut the lead to 8-2. Carpenter continued the inning with a double to put runners on second and third, but the CSUB bullpen came up with a groundout to end the threat.
The Wolverines’ offense produced six doubles in the game, tying a season high set against Stanford. Beck had the sixth of the contest to start the eighth inning.
Jacob Heppner tossed five innings with four runs, but only one earned, to take the loss. Chance Wallace and Carter Seely tossed scoreless innings late for the Wolverines.
Utah Valley will return home for a midweek matchup against BYU on Tuesday, April 7 at 6:05 p.m. MT. The Wolverines will open WAC play next weekend at Sacramento State before continuing on to Air Force.

Bailey Marvin hit a three-run homer and Britney Moreno had a three-hit game to extend her reached base streak to 16 games as Utah Valley dropped a back-and-forth contest to the UT Arlington Mavericks, 9-7 on Saturday afternoon.
Continuing in the theme of Friday’s second game, the two teams traded blows, matching rally for rally in every inning they scored until the Mavs scored three in the top of the seventh to win it and the Wolverines couldn’t answer.
UVU kept UTA off the board in the first inning for the first time this series, but the Mavs still struck first, picking up an RBI single from Kelsey Creech. Payge Armendariz got the Wolverines level with a sac fly in the bottom of the inning.
UTA rallied for two in the third on a pair of doubles to make it 3-1, but Marvin’s three-run blast in the home half put the Wolverines in front, 4-3.
UTA and Utah Valley put up matching two-spots in the fourth, with Armendariz splitting the gap for an RBI double and Moreno driving her in with a single to center.
After a scoreless fifth, both teams put up one in the sixth, with the Wolverine run coming immediately after a controversial play at second. Moreno looked to have been dead to rights trying to steal second, but was called safe. Tatum Hall then slashed a single off the wall in left later in that same plate appearance.
UTA rallied for three in the seventh to take the lead and salvage a win out of the series. Utah Valley got the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the frame, but were unable to capitalize.
The Wolverines will hit the road for their next four games, beginning on Tuesday at BYU with the final Crosstown Clash of the 2026 season. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m MT.
