Reaching new heights: Utah Valley Athletics top 10 stories of 2025

Utah Valley Athletics are on the rise and the 2025 year saw new heights reached by several of the school’s programs along with the opening of a brand new state-of-the-art soccer facility.
It’s time to familiarize yourself with what the Wolverines have accomplished and the bright future that’s in store for most of the programs heading toward the 2026 calendar year. Here’s our best effort to pinpoint 10 of the top stories surrounding UVU Athletics during the past 365 day period.
10. Running to new heights
The Utah Valley track and field program finished off 2025 in style by setting four new program records in the BYU Invitational at the end of the year. The highlight was freshman Sila Kiplagat who set a Wolverine record in the mile in her first ever race run at the collegiate level. Other school records were recorded by Pierce Vittone in the 1k, Ella Hopper in the 300 meters and Jennaveve Bingham in the 6oo yards.
9. Success’s downside

On the heels of a great 2024-25 season, the Utah Valley Men’s Basketball team lost three of its top players to the transfer portal. The losses illustrate the tough predicament for many programs across the country as players often head into the market in search of more money, and who can blame them? Utah Valley’s three players lost to the portal were Tanner Toolson (TCU), Dominick Nelson (Iowa State) and Carter Welling (Clemson.)
8. Bereft of Beckerman
After five seasons of producing a 35-31-17 overall record Beckerman decided to step away from coaching the men’s soccer program in November. Beckerman is a former star for Real Salt Lake and cited the reasons were to spend more time with his family while pursuing other opportunities. Ironically his resignation came on the cusp of the Wolverines opening up a brand new soccer facility.
7. Phillips extended
After providing a great finish to the 2024-25 season, Todd Phillips was granted a two-year extension to continue to improve the Men’s basketball program. Phillips has a great coaching track record, and if the early returns of the 2025-26 season are any indication, Phillips is exactly the type of coach who can overcome massive roster subtractions in producing a consistently good product.

6. Making firsts
The Utah Valley women’s basketball team recorded its first ever postseason win in program history with a 70-64 win over Air Force in the WNIT Tournament. Tahlia White led the Wolverines with 15 points and Halle Nelson delivered a 14-point 13-rebound performance in what was truly a breakthrough moment for the program
5. Setting high marks
Utah Valley Volleyball won the WAC tournament for the first time since 2021 to earn the program its third-ever NCAA tournament appearance. the Wolverines defeated Utah Tech in a five-set thriller in championship match. Led by standouts like Avery Page, who was named the conference Player of the Year, the Wolverines put it together in setting very high marks for themselves in 2025.
4. Best for last

Utah Valley baseball enjoyed a good regular season and even a better postseason beginning with a win in the WAC tournament. Granted the No. 3 seed entering the tournament, the Wolverines capped of their run with a thrilling 11-9 comeback win over No. 2 seed Abilene Christian. Led by sluggers like Mason Strong and Landon Frei, UVU certainly saved its best for last during the 2025 season.
3. Head of the hardwood
Utah Valley Men’s basketball team secured a WAC Conference regular season title and was granted the No. 1 seed entering the WAC postseason tournament. Led by Dominick Nelson, Tanner Toolson and Carter Welling. It was a testament to the coaching of Todd Phillips and the players, many of of whom moved on after the season, as previously mentioned. UVU has established itself as a solid basketball program capable of even greater heights in the future.
2. New digs
Utah Valley continues to make great investments in its athletic programs and that was apparent back in August of 2025 with the unveiling of the UCCU Soccer Stadium. The complex cost $30 million to build and was immediately considered one of the top collegiate soccer facilities anywhere. The Wolverines are willing to invest in the future of their athletics, and the new UCCU Soccer Stadium attests to that fact.

1. Dunking the Ducks
In news that captured national attention, the Utah Valley baseball team went on to take down the No. 12 ranked Oregon Ducks in the first round of the NCAA tournament. It was the first ever NCAA tournament win for the Wolverines and they managed to take the 6-5 win behind Jimmy De Anda, who plated three runs in his sterling effort from the plate. Utah Valley then failed to advance out of the round-robin first round structure, but that’s not to diminish what the Wolverines accomplished in reaching new heights in 2025, at all.
