A. Iona Hansen

FREMONT, CA– Annie lona Hansen, age, 94, passed away Feb. 24, 2016, in Fremont, Santa Clara, CA.

She was born in Salt Lake City, Aug. 29, 1921, to Hans and Annie Katherine Hansen.

She was educated in Mt Pleasant, graduating from Wasatch Academy in 1939.

lona went to San Diego, CA; in 1942 for a two-week vacation and lived there for 40 years. During WW11, she worked at Consolidated Aircraft Corp, where she met her future husband, Wayne Lawrence Schmitz, a U.S. Marine Sergeant from McClelland, IA.

They married March 9, 1946, and made San Diego their home, where they raised their two children, Shanna Joy and Rex Wayne.

lona and her family were active LDS church members, she held positions in the Primary and also in the Relief Society, which she thoroughly enjoyed. lona moved back to Mt Pleasant in 1982 with her young grandson, Paul Jason McColloch, whom she raised until he graduated from North Sanpete High School and he joined the U.S. Marines.

lona is survived by her daughter, Shanna Joy Schmitz Creney, San Diego, CA; and daughter-in-law, Pamela Jeffers Schmitz, Milpitas, CA; eight grandchildren, Paul Jason and Angela McColloch, West Hartford, CT; Stephanie Joy and Nicholas Miller, Ramona, CA; Hans Joseph and Mellissa Schmitz; Melissa Marie Schmitz; Thomas Rex Schmitz, all of Milpitas, CA.

She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Brittany Tipton McColloch, Azusa, CA; Heath Miller, Olivia Joy Miller, Wyatt Miller, Annie Kathleen Miller and James Miller, all of Ramona, CA; and twins, Madison and Alexis Schmitz, San Jose, CA.

Additional survivors include very special nieces and nephews, Tim Hansen, Fairview; Zelia and Newell Christensen, Rupert, ID; Micky Stott, Moroni; Michelle Kiefer, Mt. Pleasant; and Victoria Parrish, Boiling Springs, SC.

lona is preceded in death by her son, Rex; parents, Hans and Annie Hansen; an older sister, Ida Hansen Stott; a brother, Albert Hansen; niece, Norita Stott Lancaster; and a very favorite nephew, LaVoy Stott, whom she always felt was more like a brother to her.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 5, at Rasmussen Mortuary, 96 North 100 West, Mt. Pleasant, with a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the services.

Interment will be in the Hansen plot at Mt. Pleasant City Cemetery.
