Former BYU LB Bryan Kehl is a new father

By Phillip Morgan - Daily Herald - | Aug 4, 2012

A ladies man during his time at BYU, Bryan Kehl settled down and got married. Now he is a proud papa.

His new team, the Washington Redskins, announced that Kehl and his wife Jessica welcomed a new baby girl.

Here’s the release by the Redskins:

A round of congrats are in order for Washington Redskins’ linebacker Bryan Kehl and his wife, Jessica.

The two are now proud parents of their first-born child — a girl, Jayda.

The special delivery came late this week after Jessica was in labor for — get this — 22 hours.

Kehl said after Friday’s afternoon practice that mother and baby were doing just fine.

“(Jessica’s) a little beat up,” said Kehl, who was in the process of ditching his shoulder pads and helmet as fast as he could so he could get to the hospital to see his wife and child. “It was a long fight — 22 hours.”

The fifth-year linebacker out of Brigham Young said his wife was a little concerned about the possible scheduling conflicts when they learned her due date was smack dab in the middle of Redskins’ training camp.

But Kehl said the couple were able to take advantage of two important factors: The proximity of the Redskins’ training camp to their home and hospital, and the kindness of head coach Mike Shanahan.

“That’s what’s nice about being here — we’re just down the street,” Kehl said. “Coach Shanahan has just been awesome and is letting me do what I need to do.”

Kehl — understandably — got a little mushy on me when I asked about Jessica.

“I always appreciated womanhood, but, man, she’s my hero,” Kehl said. “Definitely after that. She came through like a champ.”

Somebody give this man a cigar!
