By Darnell Dickson daily Herald - | Jul 30, 2017

East Carolina Pirates (3-9 overall, 1-7 AAC East)

Plays BYU: Oct. 21 in Greenville, N.C.

Rising Stars: Quarterbacks Gardner Minshew (21 of 36 for 265 yards and two TD’s) and Reid Herring (13 of 17 for 137 yards and a score) combined for 403 passing yards in the spring game. Hussein Howe led all rushers with 92 yards on ten carries.

Spring Quotable: “In general, I thought they (quarterbacks) did a really good job throughout spring of understanding our system,” second-year head coach Scottie Montgomery said. “I really think that our team did a whole completely different job of understanding our system this spring. The way that we go to class, the way we work in the weight room, everything. I think the system is in place now and we are headed in the right direction.”

Fast Fact: Three Division I graduate transfers – running back Tyshon Dye (Clemson), defensive lineman Gaelin Elmore (Minnesota) and quarterback Thomas Sirk (Duke) — have signed to play at East Carolina and will be eligible to play immediately.
