Athletes of the Week: Skyridge’s Braden Housley and Lone Peak’s Maddie Eaton
Braden Housley
Junior guard
Skyridge
The Falcons found themselves locked in a tough, defensive struggle with Provo in their Region 8 opener last week, but Braden Housley provided the key points.
Housley scored 14 points including knocking down four 3-pointers. That was more than a third of the total Skyridge output but it turned out to be enough for the Falcons to hold on and get the 40-39 win.
The junior hasn’t been in the spotlight as much as some of his teammates, scoring just 6.1 points per game, but he has been a tremendous defensive presence (tallying a team-high 30 steals this season) and proved he can knock down key shots.
Maddy Eaton
Senior guard
Lone Peak
The Knights got off to a solid start in Region 4 action as they held off a tough challenge from visiting rival American Fork. Without Maddy Eaton having a big game, it’s likely Lone Peak would’ve been on the short end of the final score.
Eaton poured in 29 points and grabbed six rebounds, as well as finishing with three steals as the Knights got the 56-50 win.
The senior, who transferred from Maple Mountain, is averaging 19.7 points per game this season, making her No. 6 in the state. She is also a valuable all-around player (82 rebounds, 37 steals and 32 assists on the year).
