Former BYU baseball player Jacob Hannemann makes a touching play in spring training game

By Phillip Morgan daily Herald - | Mar 7, 2019

Professional baseball players have a lot of distractions when they are on the field. But for former BYU Cougar Jacob Hannemann, the distraction in center field was worth it.

On Wednesday, Hannemann, a prospect in the Chicago Cubs organization, saw his son on the berm behind the center field wall and decided to throw him a ball after warming up for the inning.

The reaction was adorable, and caught on video, which Hannemann posted to his Instagram account.

Hannemann was drafted by the Cubs in 2013, and has played the majority of his professional career in their organization. He made his major league debut with the Seattle Mariners in 2017 after being released by the Cubs. He then signed with Chicago again before the 2018 season, where he spent the year at Triple-A Iowa.

This spring Hannemann is 2-for-17 with five walks and an RBI in 10 games.

But despite his struggles at the plate this spring, his throw on Wednesday may have been the play of spring training.
