Utah Valley Top 5: Teams digging in for region play

Here is a look at which high school teams have earned the right to be recognized as the best in Utah Valley right now:

BASEBALL

1. Lone Peak (7-2, 0-0 Region 4)

Speedy Crew McChesney with three triples this season for Knights

2. Skyridge (8-2, 0-0 Region 4)

Falcons earned comeback 9-8 win vs. Bear River

3. American Fork (7-3, 0-0 Region 4)

Big three-game series with Lone Peak to open region play

4. Lehi (13-3, 7-2 Region 8)

Pioneers take on league-leading Jordan (8-0) this week

5. Spanish Fork (11-2, 3-0 Region 9)

Dons scored 10 runs in one inning in 12-2 victory vs. Provo

SOFTBALL

1. Skyridge (9-2, 1-0)

The Falcons might be tested when they host Pleasant Grove on Tuesday.

2. Salem Hills (11-3, 1-1)

The Skyhawks are set to host Springville in a big Region 9 battle.

3. Springville (13-4, 2-0)

The Red Devils lost a tough non-league game to Bear River.

4. Spanish Fork (10-3, 2-0)

Since losing back-to-back one-run games, the Dons have won six straight by at least 10 runs.

5. Timpanogos (10-3, 5-0)

The Timberwolves can take a big lead in Region 7 by winning at Lehi on Tuesday.

BOYS SOCCER

1. Salem Hills (9-0, 2-0)

The Skyhawks are on a collision course with Provo with the first showdown taking place Tuesday in Provo.

2. Provo (7-1, 2-0)

The Bulldogs will need to be excellent on offense to break through the Salem Hills defense.

3. Wasatch (5-2, 1-1)

Beto Vargas and Diego Magana have each scored three times to pace the Wasps.

4. American Fork (4-2, 1-0)

The Cavemen could set the tone by beating league-leading Corner Canyon in AF on Wednesday.

5. Lehi (7-1, 5-0)

The Pioneers host Alta on Tuesday in a battle of Region 8 leviathans.

BOYS LACROSSE

1. American Fork (6-0, 2-0)

The Cavemen have two dangerous games this week at Skyridge and hosting Westlake.

2. Timpview (6-1, 4-1)

The Thunderbirds will be road warriors with a pair of away contests.

3. Lone Peak (6-3, 1-1)

If the Knights can go on the road and give Corner Canyon a battle, it will be a huge boost for the program.

4. Skyridge (5-2, 0-2)

The Falcons better get things organized quickly as they prepare to host American Fork.

5. Orem (5-3, 3-2)

The Tigers can get themselves back in the mix by beating Timpview on Thursday.

T-Wolves will be tested by Lehi this week
