Head Coach: Aaron Behm (14th season)
2021 record: 7-4 overall, 2-3 Region 4
Playoffs: No. 8 seed, lost to No. 1 Corner Canyon 45-28 in 6A quarterfinals
Players to Watch: Hunter Clegg 6-3 240 Sr. TE/DE, Trey Roberts 6-2 200 Sr. WR/LB, Evan Agor 6-2 215 Sr. LB, Jake Greenwood 6-5 285 Sr. OL
Outlook: The Cavemen said good-bye to three-year starting quarterback and Boise State signee Maddux Madsen, who threw for 10,834 yards and 130 touchdowns in his career. AF coach Aaron Behm said three players — senior Champion Edwards and juniors Dylan Story and Lincoln Jackson — will compete for the starting role.
“We feel like we have a very dedicated group of seniors who are doing a great job leading the program,” Behm said. “We have some big holes to fill in a few areas but our kids are working extremely hard to step up and fill those holes. So far, our strength is our leaders. We have kids willing to push their teammates and speak up when things are not being done to our standard. They have very high expectations for themselves.”
Senior receiver Trey Roberts caught 38 passes for 612 yards and 12 touchdowns last season and the offensive line will be anchored by Jake Greenwood and Jarvis Griffiths.
The defense will be formidable with Stanford commit Hunter Clegg leading the way on the line, along with returning starting linebacker Evan Agor.
“We are looking forward to playing in Region 4 and the challenge it presents each week,” Behm said. “The state champion has come from this region for quite a while and these programs just continue to get better. We also have a really challenging non-region schedule and looking forward to playing a few teams from up north, including the Idaho state champions, Rigby.”
The captains: “We always allow our seniors to select our captains,” Behm said. “We have a meeting with the seniors where we talk about leadership and what being a captain means. Then we have a vote. Nobody knows better than our seniors about who the best leaders are and who they want to follow and represent them during the season.”
