Best of the Best: 2022 Daily Herald All-Valley Girls Volleyball Team
Here are the top volleyball players in the Utah Valley area in 2022:
Player of the Year: Silina Damuni, Sr. S, Timpview
Damuni is a two-time state champion, having led the T-Birds to the 2020 and 2022 5A titles. She finished this season with 1,060 assists (11 assists per set) while adding 147 kills, 55 aces, 75 blocks and 298 digs. Damuni is also the all-time Utah career leader in assists with 3,467 and will take her talents to BYU next season.
Offensive MVP: Taliah Lee, Sr. OH, Timpview
The powerful right arm of Lee produced 382 kills in 2022 (4.0 kills per set) with a hitting percentage of .401. Lee also added 36 aces and 228 digs. She will play next season at Long Beach State.
Defensive MVP: Zoey Burgess, Jr. MB, Lone Peak
The high-flying Burgess was intimidating at the net for the 6A state champs, accounting for 73 blocks, 22 of them solo. She also had 342 kills (3.3 per set) and hit .391 with 32 aces and 119 digs. She has committed to play at the University of Kansas.
Co-Setters of the Year: Kaylin Scott, Sr., Mountain View and Kalia Kohler, Sr., Lone Peak
Scott had plenty of talent to feed for the Bruins and produced 826 assists (9.6 per set) while adding 57 aces, 44 blocks and 239 digs. Kohler improved dramatically over the course of the season and finished with 970 assists (9.4 per set) along with 108 kills (hitting .389), 58 aces and 286 digs.
Libero of the Year: Jettlee Ione, Sr. L, Maple Mountain
A Maple Mountain volleyball match wasn’t complete without Ione making at least one spectacular diving save or pass. She ended up with 336 digs (3.7 per set) and 530 receptions (5.8 per set) with just 36 errors.
Co-Coaches of the Year: Paula Jardine, Lone Peak and Charmay Lee, Timpview
Jardine took over one of the most successful programs in the state and after a bit of slow start put the Knights right back into the state championship match, where they took care of No. 1 Mountain Ridge 3-1 for the 6A state title. Lee had to deal with some early season injuries but the T-Birds rolled to the finish with 14 consecutive wins, including a 3-1 victory against Mountain View in the 5A final.
All-Valley First Team
Sami Blackett, Jr. OH, Orem
Blackett had 256 kills (3.7 per set) with 32 aces and 150 digs for the Tigers.
Greta Brown, Jr. OH, Lone Peak
Brown finished with 280 kills (2.7 per set) with 31 aces and 252 digs for the 6A state champs.
Grace Keisel, Sr. MB, Maple Mountain
Keisel finished with 309 kills (3.3 per set) and hit .246 while adding 39 blocks and 202 digs.
Mia Lee, Sr. MB, Mountain View
The high-flying Lee, who is headed to BYU, finished with 288 kills (3.5 per set) while hitting .294. She added 49 aces and 40 blocks.
Ava Nakai, Jr. OH, Spanish Fork
Nakai ended the season with 316 kills (3.3 per set) while contributing 243 digs and 53 aces.
Ava Napierski, Jr. MB, Timpview
Napierski totaled 228 kills (2.4 per set) along with 30 aces and 64 blocks for the 5A state champs.
Julie Oberg, Sr. MB, Springville
Oberg knocked down 296 kills (3.0 per set) and hit .311 to go along with 66 blocks and 45 aces for the Red Devils.
Lucy Perez, Sr. OH, Mountain View
Perez led a talented Bruins roster and capped a great high school career with 310 kills (3.6 per set) and hit .324 with 73 aces and 193 digs.
Marly Pratt, Jr. OH, Maple Mountain
Pratt totaled 461 kills (5.0 per set) while hitting .259. She added 52 aces and 335 digs for the Golden Eagles.
Morgan Pratt, Jr. S, Maple Mountain
The Golden Eagles setter had 926 assists (10.2 per set) to go along with 80 aces and 293 digs.
Madison Standifird, Sr. OH, Skyridge
Standifird had 357 kills (3.1 per set) with 72 aces, and 347 digs for the Falcons.
Trinidy Tien, Jr. L, Lone Peak
The 6A state champs had a great one at libero with Tien, who finished with 326 digs (3.8 per set) and 30 aces along with 422 receptions.
Tessa Treanor, Sr. OH, Salem Hills
Treanor surpassed 1,000 kills (1,291) for her career. In 2022, she had 465 kills (4.7 per set) and hit .257 to go along with 93 aces and 296 digs for the Skyhawks.
Jaiden Van Horn, Jr. S, Salem Hills
Van Horn led the Skyhawks offense with 877 assists (8.5 per set) with 75 aces and 47 blocks.
Davis Wright, Sr. OH, Cedar Valley
Wright did a bit of everything for the Aviators, totaling 305 kills (3.0 per set) along with 317 dig and 47 aces.
All-Valley Second Team
Savanna Brotherson, Jr. MB, Mountain View
Brotherson improved over the season and ended up with 115 kills (1.4 per set) while hitting .367. She also had 37 blocks.
Adalanta Dickson, Timpanogos
Dickson helped lead the Timberwolves to a 17-9 record and a seventh-place finish in the 5A Tournament.
Emma Grant, Sr. OH, Skyridge
Grant had 257 kills (2.5 per set), along with 81 aces and 193 digs for the Falcons.
Grace Holley, Sr. L, Salem Hills
Holley totaled 464 digs and had 629 receptions along with 58 aces for the Skyhawks.
Ella Keisel, Sr. MB, Salem Hills
Keisel totaled 131 kills and was big at the net for the Skyhawks with 71 blocks.
Tiana Mariner, So. L, Timpview
Mariner stepped in when Eunice Garcia was injured and led the T-Birds with 359 digs (3.7 per set) and also had 31 aces and 494 receptions.
Olivia Marshall, Sr. OH, Skyridge
Marshall contributed 214 kills (2.4 per set) during the 2022 season.
Brielle Miller, Sr. L, Mountain View
Miller, who is headed to BYU, totaled 157 digs (2.6 per set) and had 263 receptions.
Presley Ryan, Jr. OH, Payson
Ryan managed 268 kills (3.7 per set) and hit .287, also adding 28 aces, 37 blocks and 134 digs.
Avery Oman, Sr. OH, Springville
Oman finished with 196 kills (2.0 per set) while hitting .235 for the Red Devils.
Lacie Valgardson, Jr. OH, Pleasant Grove
Valgardson led the Vikings to a strong finish, ending the season with 195 kills (2.7 per set).
Ashley Weist, Sr. MB, Cedar Valley
A mutiple year starter, Weist had 195 kills (1.9 per set) and ended up with 45 blocks.
Kelly Wesley, Jr. OH, Mountain View
Wesley ended the season with 210 kills and hit .226, along with contributing 48 aces.
