Members of the BYU men's basketball team prepare for introductions before a game during the 2022-23 season.BYU men’s basketball has pulled in a pretty big fish from the Class of 2024 with Wednesday’s commitment from Idaho big man Isaac Davis.
The 6-foot-7 four-star junior made his pledge to Mark Pope on Instagram, picking the Cougars out of a top five that also included Oklahoma, UNLV, VCU and Washington State.
In March, Davis led Hillcrest (25-1) to its second straight 4A championship with a 62-58 victory against Pocatello. Davis totaled 22 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals, then punctuated the victory with an alley-oop dunk in the final minute.
Last season Davis averaged 17.6 points, nine rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game for the Knights while shooting 69% from the field.
Hillcrest coach Matt Jolley told ESPN 960 that Davis can play effectively in both the post and on the perimeter, noting that Davis should develop into a good 3-point shooter. Jolley also praised Davis as a superior ball distributor for a player of his size who can defend all five positions.
Davis is ranked as the No. 16 power forward nationally and the No. 94 overall prospect by the 24/7 Sports Network. Both ESPN and Rivals rate him as a 4-star prospect with Rivals listing Davis as the No. 81 prospect nationally.
Davis is part of a big push for the Cougars with the Class of 2024, which also includes 2023 Utah Gatorade Player of the Year Brody Kozlowski of Corner Canyon and Malik Dialo of Wasatch Academy.
