Springville's Tevita Valeti carries a Wasatch defender into the end zone during a high school football game on Friday, Sept. 23, 2022.

Head Coach: Dave Valeti (2nd season)

2022 record: 8-2 overall, 5-0 Region 9

Playoffs: No. 3 seed, lost to No. 19 Alta 34-27 in 5A second round

Players to Watch: Sr. OL/DL Dallin Johnson, Sr. RB Tevita Valeti, Sr. DE/OL Kini Fonohema, Sr. DB Tua Valeti, Sr. RB/LB Tisi Valeti, Sr. WR/DB Luke Nadauld.

Outlook: Springville was one of the top teams in 5A last season before being upset in the second round of the playoffs by No. 19 Alta. Second-year coach Dave Valeti returns senior running back Tevita Valeti, who rushed for 1,679 yards and 22 touchdowns last season along with one of the state’s top offensive lines. Yes, the Red Devils will rely on a strong running game once again.

“We look forward to strapping up tight and competing every week,” Coach Valeti said. “Our schedule is tough and one that will have us ready to make a run in the playoffs. We return some key contributors from last season but for us to reach our potential our young guys will need to step in and find their footing on the varsity field.”

Springville returns one of the top linemen in the state in senior Dallin Johnson (6-4, 290), who is a BYU commit, along with senior Kini Fonohema (6-5 225), who recently picked up an offer from the Cougars. Tevita Valeti, Johnson and Fonohema are team captains along with senior wide receiver/defensive back Luke Nadauld, senior linebacker Tisi Valeti and defensive back Tua Valeti.

The Red Devils will compete in Region 7 this season with tough matchups against perennial powers Timpview and Orem.

Program Hero: “Alan Curtis was an assistant coach here for over 50 years. He’s an unsung hero of not only our program but our entire community. Unfortunately, Coach Al passed away while we were at team camp this summer and it has been a tough situation for the team. We will play the game the way Coach Al taught us to: Tough, physical and relentless. His presence on the sideline will be greatly missed but his impact will live on forever.”
