Lehi players pose for a photo after winning the 5A state championship game in triple overtime over Timpview at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City on Friday, Nov. 18, 2022.

Head Coach: Ed Larson (10th season)

2022 record: 14-0 overall, 4-0 Region 8 (1st)

Playoffs: No. 1 seed, def. No. 2 Timpview 29-23 (3OT) in 5A title game

Players to Watch: Sr. OL Jensen Somerville, Sr. TE Grayson Brousseau, Jr. QB Jett Niu, Sr. WR Jace John, So. RB Devaughn Eka, Sr. DT Alema Tamala, Jr. LB Paul Latu, So. DE Penisimani Takitaki

Outlook: The Pioneers won two straight 5A championships and move up to 6A to compete in rugged Region 3 with Lone Peak, American Fork, Skyridge, Westlake and Pleasant Grove. Lehi lost a ton of talent to graduation and doesn’t return a single starter on defense.

“Lehi will be in rebuilding mode this year and getting much-needed experience at the 6A level,” Pioneers coach Ed Larson said. “I believe we have really good talent and look forward to growing with the team.”

Despite the rebuilding tag, Larson likes his defense with senior defensive end Alema Tamala, junior linebacker Paul Latu, sophomore defensive end Peni Takitaki and senior safety Max Ray leading the way. On offense, junior Jett Niu steps into the quarterback role to try and replace the ultra-productive Jackson Brousseau (Colorado State). He’ll have a host of good receivers to throw to and sophomore running back Devaughn Eka (5-11, 180) has star quality. Tight end Grayson Brousseau (6-6, 235) holds a BYU offer and senior tackle Jensen Somerville (6-8, 295) has committed to UCLA.

Program Hero: “Our director of football operations is Kory Boyd. I cannot do what I do without him. He is the operational backbone of the program. I can’t thank him enough for all his work and tireless effort on behalf of our players.” — Ed Larson
