2022 record: 6-4 overall, 3-2 Region 9 (2nd)
Playoffs: No. 8 seed, lost to No. 9 Box Elder 24-21 in 5A second round
Players to Watch: Sr. WR/S Drew Deucher, Sr. RB/LB Tagai Lesa, Sr. S/WR Kyle Larsen, Sr. OL Jordan Snow, Jr. LB Hutch Fale, Jr. QB Soakai Aston, Jr. RB/LB Saia Hifo.
Outlook: The Bulldogs have been a contender the past couple of seasons in 5A and this season moves down to 4A to compete in Region 8 with Mountain View, Payson, Salem Hills, Spanish Fork, Timpanogos and Uintah.
“We are excited to face new region opponents and appreciate the continued competition against Spanish Fork and Salem Hills,” Provo coach Kirk Chambers said. “We feel that we have a chance to be competitive at the state level if we can manage to keep everyone healthy.”
Senior Drew Deucher (41 catches, 630 yards, six TDs and second team All-State on defense) will play a key role while Tagai Lesa, Kyle Larsen and junior Saia Hifo all have big-play capability on offense. Stepping in at quarterback is junior Soakai Aston.
“We’re excited to see what Soakai can do as a new starting quarterback,” Chambers said.
On defense, junior linebacker Hutch Fale returns after logging better than 100 tackles last season.
Program Hero: “Our unsung hero is Ela Asisi. Her son, Daniel (Weber State), graduated two years ago but she has continues to assist our program as co-booster president. She helps with our youth program, takes team pictures, organizes team dinners, helps organize concessions and the list goes on and on. She is always there to help and makes our football community a better place.”
