Maple Mountain and Mountain View players line up for a play during the non-region game in Spanish Fork on Friday, August 12, 2022.

Head Coach: Kalin Hall (1st season)

2022 record: 1-9 overall, 0-5 Region 9

Playoffs: None

Players to Watch: Sr. WR Easton Merrell, Jr. LB Tiger Hakes, Sr. OL Braxton Jensen

Outlook: Former BYU running back Kalin Hall has been an assistant coach at Timpview, Spanish Fork and Payson. When Brad Burtenshaw stepped down after 14 years at Maple Mountain — the only head coach the program has ever known — Hall was tabbed as the man to replace him.

Turning around a program that has won only four games the past two seasons is hard work but Hall finds it rewarding.

“I’ve been living in this community for 30 years and I felt like could bring a lot of people with me that would add value and help us have a good program,” Hall said. “I always felt like this area has talent and potential. I’m a competitor and we’ll give it the best shot we can. It’s a highly demanding process but we want to build a real foundation where these kids have an opportunity for success.”

Hall said around 50 kids walked away from the program during the rugged summer process but he still has about 110 players grinding through the process. He mentioned senior wide receiver Easton Merrell as a leader and someone who could have a good year, along with junior linebacker Tiger Hakes. Hall is also high on move-in Vili Fano, an excellent athlete who will demand attention from opponents, as well as offensive lineman Braxton Jensen.

Realignment has landed the Golden Eagles in a tough spot: 5A Region 7, playing against Timpview, Orem, Springville, Cedar Valley and Wasatch.

Program Hero: “One of the most important and influential people in our program is Lori Fano, our booster club president. She’s really been bringing our community together: The band, the cheer team, the drill, everybody. It’s such an essential part of having a successful program. It’s so uplifting to the community to help everyone feel like they are an important part of what we’re trying to do.” — Kalin Hall
