Valley Top 5: Lone Peak girls, Springville boys lead basketball rankings

Here’s a look at our Utah Valley Top 5 rankings for boys basketball, girls basketball, boys wrestling and girls wrestling for this week:

Boys Basketball

1. Springville (11-4)

Red Devils get 28 points from Chase Halsem in win vs. Wasatch

2. Lone Peak (12-4)

Knights have opened Region 3 with a 3-0 mark, including big win vs. AF

3. Lehi (12-5)

Cooper Lewis’s line vs. Mountain View: 29 points, nine rebounds, six assists

4. American Fork (11-6)

Tough two-point loss for Cavemen at Lone Peak

5. Cedar Valley (12-4)

Aviators make first-ever appearance in boys ratings

Girls Basketball (Needs updated)

1. Lone Peak (12-3)

The Knights are allowing Region 4 foes to barely average 30 points per game.

2. Springville (13-2)

The Red Devils may not get tested much during the next month.

3. Skyridge (11-4)

The Falcons made the plays they needed to knock off Corner Canyon in a thriller.

4. Westlake (12-4)

The Thunder need to step up and prove they are the third-best team in Region 4.

5. Timpview (12-4)

The Thunderbirds finished off the sweep of Lehi and likely will roll through the rest of league play.

1. Payson

Lions go undefeated at 5A Duals in Friday’s tournament.

2. Pleasant Grove

Vikings placed an impressive second place at a 33-team invite in Las Vegas.

3. Wasatch

Wasps go undefeated at 5A Duals in Saturday’s tournament.

4. Westlake

Thunder placed second at 6A Duals.

5. Spanish Fork

Dons win North Summit Invite in dominating fashion.

Thunder with Utah Girls State Dual Championship.

2. Springville

Depth shows well in tournament win at Mountain View.

3. Salem Hills

Skyhawks are making big strides.

4. Mountain View

Aviators have good numbers which will help them at divisionals and state tournaments.
