Valley Top 5: Stage is set for girls soccer playoffs

Each week, Daily Herald sports writers Jared Lloyd and Darnell Dickson rank the top five teams in the Utah Valley in football, girls soccer and girls volleyball:

FOOTBALL

1. Skyridge (8-0)

McClellan, Burke, Kalama and Call best receiving corps in the state?

2. American Fork (7-1)

Cavemen get back on track with 31-10 victory against Pleasant Grove.

3. Pleasant Grove (7-1)

Despite loss to AF, Vikings still a strong 6A contender.

4. Timpview (6-2)

T-Birds averaging 44.3 points in past three games.

5. Provo (6-2)

Each of the past two Bulldogs wins (Payson, Spanish Fork) by single digits.

GIRLS SOCCER

1. Lone Peak (16-1)

The Knights completed a perfect run through Region 3, now look to do it in the 6A playoffs.

2. Timpanogos (12-3)

The Timberwolves ended up tied with Mountain View atop the Region 8 standings.

3. American Fork (10-5)

The Cavemen stumbled to the end of the year with a tough home loss to Pleasant Grove.

4. Springville (11-5)

The Red Devils held off the Thunderbirds to secure the Region 7 title.

5. Mountain View (12-4)

The Bruins have quietly put together an excellent season and will be dangerous at state.

1. Skyridge (17-0)

Falcons still waiting for first shot at Lone Peak.

2. Pleasant Grove (14-3)

Vikings have won nine of past 10 matches.

3. Lone Peak (13-4)

Fans robbed of key matchup with Skyridge due to Covid outbreak.

4. Maple Mountain (13-4)

Senior Emma Bailey might be most underrated player in the valley.

5. Orem (14-5)

Tigers savoring first win vs. Mountain View since 2018.
