BYU women’s basketball adds Jordan Loera to coaching staff
BYU women’s basketball head coach Amber Whiting announced the addition of Jordan Loera to her staff as an assistant coach on Thursday.
“I am super excited to have Jordan join our staff,” said Whiting. “Jordan has a gift for connecting with players, recruits and our staff. She has a great basketball mind, is focused on winning and has already built great chemistry with me and my staff which will be important as we enter our second season in the Big 12. Jordan is someone who can help our players reach their full potential on and off the court.”
Loera comes to BYU by way of Eastern Washington where she coached for the past three seasons. During her third season in Cheney, Loera helped the Eagles to a program and Big Sky record 29 wins as well as their first Big Sky Championship and trip to the NCAA Tournament since 1987. Under her tutelage, Eastern Washington notched program records in total points scored (2,392) and fewest turnovers per game (11.5).
During her second year on staff, the Eagles improved from a 9-21 mark in 2021-22 to winning the fifth-most games in program history in 2022-23, going 19-11. En route to the 10-game improvement, Eastern Washington recorded its lowest turnover total (370) and turnovers per game mark (12.3) in school history. The Eagles also set the fifth-highest mark for points per game, scoring 69.5 points per contest.
Before her time at Eastern Washington, Loera spent two seasons as a graduate manager and director of operations at Southern Utah. During her time in Cedar City, she was responsible for the development of guards and posts while assisting the staff by coordinating all team travel, producing scouting reports and film breakdowns.
Loera played basketball for Oregon from 2011-16 where she appeared in 112 games, starting 45 during her time in Eugene. Loera averaged 4.7 points per game during her career with the Ducks and set the Oregon record for 3-point field goals by a freshman in 2011-12 with 45 which led the team.
The newest addition to the Cougar coaching staff has also coached overseas with NBC camps as a coach and director and at the high school level. Loera is a licensed teacher who taught a coaching and officiating class while at Southern Utah and has spent time as a sales and marketing associate.
Loera graduated from Oregon in 2016 with a bachelor’s in digital arts and earned a Master’s of Public Administration from Southern Utah in 2021.
