2022 BYU football Countdown to Camp: Opponents have to respect what No. 10 can do

One of the rituals of summer is having college football awards organizations start putting out their watch lists and preseason All-American teams for the upcoming season.
Is any one of those groups going to eliminate a player from consideration for a recognition after a great season simply because he wasn’t on the preseason list?
Absolutely not.
No, the watch lists are all about recognizing a combination of past success and future potential.
They can’t see the future, so they have no idea whether a player will struggle or succeed, whether he will stay healthy or get hurt, whether he will be overshadowed by others or be a star.
But since they were good before, they deserve at least some accolades.
That’s the same as with the Countdown to Camp, since the goal of this list is to recognize the players who will impact the upcoming season the most.
It also is predicated on what has happened in the past but that tends to be a good indicator of what might happen moving forward.
The next athlete on the list is one who may or may not be on preseason lists — but could easily be in the mix to be honored at the end of the year.
No. 10: Dallin Holker, junior tight end
Former BYU offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes said he firmly believed Holker was an athlete who would succeed in the SEC, which is pretty high praise.
The former Lehi star has been a consistent performer during his two seasons in Provo, tallying 33 receptions for 435 yards and two touchdowns.
But things seem to be lining up for Holker to have an even bigger season this year, since the Cougars have a veteran offense and he has had more time to get back to full strength since returning from his mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The best BYU teams have always had excellent tight ends and 2022 will likely be no exception as the Cougars have big hopes for both Holker and sophomore Isaac Rex.
