BYU head coach Shawn Olmstead has announced the official signing of transfer Keoni Thiim from Hawaii.

A 6-foot outside hitter from Honolulu, Hawaii, Thiim played for the Rainbow Warriors from 2022-2024, totaling 189 kills, 144 digs, 71 aces and 35 total blocks.

In the 2024 season, Thiim appeared in all 30 of Hawaii’s matches, with 14 starts at outside hitter. He recorded at least one ace in 20 matches, totaling 40, and earned a career-high 20 kills against Long Beach State on March 16. From 2022-2023, Thiim appeared in 57 matches for the Rainbow Warriors primarily as a serving specialist.

Prior to Hawaii, he attended Santa Barbara Community College for two years, appearing in 10 matches for the Vaqueros in the 2020 season while averaging 2.82 kills per set and 1.33 digs per set.

Thiim has one brother and one sister, with parents Kanai Thiim and Eva Wilton. He comes from a long line of collegiate volleyball players as his grandfather is former UH head coach Mike Wilton (1992-2009), who is the program’s all-time winningest coach. Thiim’s uncle is Aaron Wilton (1994-97), who was an All-American for the Warriors, while his cousin Larry Tulieta is also a former Warrior who played as libero from 2017-2018.

BYU has also added 6-foot-3 Orange Coast College transfer Cole Hauser and 6-4 Vancouver Island University transfer Lucas Torres (both pin hitters) to the roster for the 2025 season. The Cougars graduated three seniors from a team that finished 2024 with a 16-9 overall record and ranked No. 7 in the final AVCA Coaches Poll.
