BYU women’s soccer gets No. 7 seed in NCAA tournament
BYU women’s soccer was selected for the NCAA tournament for the seventh year in a row, the league announced during its selection show on Monday.
The Cougars will be hosting previous conference foe Santa Clara in the first round of the tournament on Friday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. MT on South Field. BYU and Santa Clara last met on Saturday, October 29, 2022 when the teams tied 0-0 on South Field.
Going 9-6-5 overall and 6-2-3 in the Big 12 Conference, the Cougars finished No. 4 in conference, No. 19 (Top Drawer Soccer) in the nation, with an RPI ranking of No. 26.
The Cougars earned a first round bye in the Big 12 tournament and beat Oklahoma State 5-0 in the quarterfinals before falling to TCU, 2-1 in the semifinals.
Under the direction of head coach Jennifer Rockwood, BYU has earned a spot in the NCAA tournament 25 times. The Cougars have been to nine Sweet Sixteens, five Elite Eights, one College Cup semifinals and one College Cup finals appearance in 2021. Last year, the Cougars earned a No. 1 seed and made it to the College Cup semifinals before falling to Stanford, 2-0.
First round games will be played on Nov. 15-17 at 32 different campus sites. The second- and third-round games will occur at eight campus sites, and those rounds will take place Nov. 22 and 24, with the quarterfinals on Nov. 29 or 30.
The 2024 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer College Cup is scheduled to take place Dec. 6 and 9 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.
