BYU fans react during a Big 12 men's basketball game against TCU in the Marriott Center on Saturday, March 2, 2024.

New BYU men’s basketball coach Kevin Young keeps topping himself as a recruiter.

The Cougars roster seemed to be set for the 2024-25 season but Young has added yet another European superstar in 6-foot-10 Serbian Mihailo Boskovic.

Boscovic made his commitment known on social media with this post on ‘X”: “Thrilled to come play in front of Coug Nation at BYU,” along with a plug for an NIL related deal. He is expected to join the team immediately.

Boskovic is 22 years old and has been playing professionally in Bosnia for KK Dynamic. He was the MVP of the FIBA U20 Championships in 2022 and declared for 2023 NBA draft, working out for the Sacramento Kings before opting to withdraw his name.

From his video highlights, Boskovic is a skilled defender as well as a good ball handler and shooter who can play multiple positions. He joins an already loaded roster in Provo, which includes Dallin Hall, Richie Saunders, Trevin Knell and Fousseyni Traore from last year’s team, highly touted newcomers Egor Demin, Kanon Catchings, Elijah Crawford and Brody Kozlowski along with transfer portal additions Keba Keta and Mawot Mag.

Others on the roster include Dawson Baker, Trey Stewart, Townsend Tripple, junior college transfer Max Triplett and walk-on Jared McGregor.

In July, it was reported from several sources that BYU had a commitment from 6-9 Khadim Mboup, who had been competing at the NBA Academy in Africa. The school has yet to announce his official signing. If Mboup does come to Provo, that sets the BYU roster at 17 players for the 2024-25 season.

The Cougars begin competition on Oct. 30 with an exhibition game at the Marriott Center against Colorado Christian.

Utah Valley becomes a Nike school

OREM — Utah Valley University Athletics has announced a new multi-year partnership with Nike and BSN SPORTS as the official outfitter for UVU Athletics.

The agreement, which began in August with women’s soccer, saw the Wolverines debut their new Nike kits in a win over crosstown rival BYU. Nike and BSN SPORTS will provide apparel, footwear, and other equipment needs for all UVU Athletics teams.

Utah Valley was formerly with Adidas. Other Nike schools in Utah include BYU, Utah State and Utah Tech. Southern Utah and Weber State have partnered with Adidas and the University of Utah has a deal with Under Armour.

“Our UVU Athletics program continues to reach new heights, and this partnership with Nike and BSN SPORTS is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff,” said Utah Valley Director of Athletics, Dr. Jared Sumsion. “We are thrilled to join forces with brands that embody excellence and innovation. This collaboration will not only elevate our athletic performance but also enhance our brand and community presence.”

The partnership with Nike and BSN SPORTS represents a significant milestone for UVU Athletics, ensuring that Wolverine student-athletes have access to top-tier resources and equipment as they compete at the highest level. Nike and BSN SPORTS’ commitment to excellence aligns seamlessly with UVU’s mission to foster growth, success, and a competitive spirit among its athletic programs.

“We are excited to welcome Nike and BSN SPORTS as our official outfitter,” said Dr. Sumsion. “This partnership will provide our teams with the best possible gear, helping them to perform at their peak and continue to achieve greatness.”
