After two nail-biters to start the three-game set against rival Utah, the BYU softball team left no doubt in the final contest of the series.

The Cougars defeated the Utes, 14-5, in six innings at Gail Miller Field in Provo on Saturday afternoon, doing so in walk-off fashion for the third game in a row to pick up the series sweep.

Highlighted by a nine-run third inning (the second time in as many games where BYU plated nine in the same frame), the Cougars (29-12, 11-7 Big 12) took down the Utes for their second series sweep in Big 12 play.

BYU out-hit Utah, 13-7, and also benefitted from four Ute errors. Kaysen Korth led the Cougar pitching staff with her five strikeouts.

Ilove’a Brittingham broke BYU’s single-season freshman RBI record with a two-RBI single in the fifth, totaling 62 RBI on the year.

The Utes scored in the first inning with a single to left field. BYU responded with a run of its own when Lindy Milkowski doubled to the left side, driving in Aleia Agbayani. The inning ended tied at one.

Utah broke things open in the top of the third with a three-run homer to grab a 4-1 lead, but the Cougars answered right back once more. Lily Owens laced a single to right, bringing home Miranda Mansfield, then came around to score herself on a wild pitch, cutting the gap to one.

Still in the third, Keila Kamoku launched a three-run homer over the left field fence, giving BYU its first lead of the day at 6-4. Maddie Udall-Woolley followed with a single up the middle and scored on Utah’s third error of the game, committed during Tristen Turlington’s at-bat, extending the Cougars’ lead to 7-4. With Mansfield and Turlington on base, Owens rocketed a shot to left field for a three-run homer, clearing the bases and capping off a massive nine-run inning for BYU at 10-4.

In the top of the fifth, the Utes capitalized on a Cougar error to score a run, but BYU held strong with the bases loaded to preserve its 10-5 lead.

Brittingham ripped a shot to left field in the bottom half of the frame, driving in two runs and setting a new BYU freshman record for single-season RBI. Her hit extended the Cougars’ lead to 12-5.

Turlington put the finishing touch on BYU’s win in the sixth, launching a two-run homer to left center that brought home Kamoku and sealed the run-rule 14-5 victory and series sweep for the Cougars.

BYU travels to Getterman Stadium in Waco, Texas for a series against Baylor from Thursday to Saturday. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.

Cougar men’s volleyball gets No. 3 seed for MPSF tournament

The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation officially announced the 2025 Tournament seedings Sunday afternoon, with BYU earning the No. 3 seed and advancing straight to the quarterfinals.

BYU is set to play in the quarterfinal on Thursday, April 24 at 8 p.m. PT. The Cougars will face the winner of the No. 6 Stanford vs. No. 7 Menlo match being held on Wednesday at 8 p.m. PT in the second round of the tournament.

The No. 8 Cougars celebrated senior night and their last regular-season match on Saturday with a 3-1 win (25-19, 25-20, 23-25, 25-17) over No. 7 Pepperdine.

BYU took the first two sets of the match, and despite a close 25-23 third-set loss, the team took set four, sweeping the Waves in back-to-back matches.

The Cougars honored seniors Luke Benson, Noa Haine, Miks Ramanis, Teon Taylor and Keoni Thiim after the match.

BYU baseball lost the season finale to No. 22 Arizona

A four-run sixth inning from No. 22 Arizona proved too much to overcome as BYU baseball fell 7-5 to the Wildcats in the series rubber match on Saturday at Miller Park.

BYU (19-18, 6-12 Big 12) scored five runs on eight hits while Arizona (28-11, 12-6 Big 12) scored seven runs on nine hits.

“Arizona is really good on the mound,” said head coach Trent Pratt. “We scored five runs, which I think they’re giving up less than that every game. We just needed to find a way to close out the game.”

BYU will head down the road to Orem to face UVU on Monday in the second and final game of the season series at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and BYU Radio.

Oblad’s record-breaking 400-meters highlights weekend for Cougar track

Sami Oblad broke her own 400-meter school record Saturday afternoon at the Mt. SAC Relays.

The senior from Stansbury Park, Utah clocked 51.79 to place second in the elite sections of the 400m and break her previous school record by over half of a second. Oblad’s previous record was 52.35 set at the 2024 NCAA West Preliminary Round.

A Second Team All-American at the 2025 NCAA indoor championships, Oblad’s time ranks No. 20 in the NCAA this season and No. 2 in the Big 12. She also holds BYU’s indoor 400m record at 51.70.

The Cougar men’s team finished its weekend in California on a high note as the 4×400-meter relay ran the second-fastest time in program history in the final event of the Mt. SAC Relays.

The quartet of Eli Hazlett, Josh Taylor, Jonah Heimuli and Trey Jackson became just the fourth 4×400-meter relay in program history to break 3:04 as they ran 3:03.05 to finish fourth.

On the final day of the Beach Invitational on the campus of Long Beach State, Jaden Roskelley set a massive personal best in the long jump. The sophomore jumped 7.75m/25-5.25 with a legal wind (+0.5) on his sixth and final attempt of the competition to secure the victory. Prior to Saturday, Roskelley had never recorded a jump over 24 feet during his two seasons as a Cougar.

BYU track and field will compete at the Payton Jordan Invitational in Stanford, California, on Friday and the Aggie Invitational in Logan from Friday to Saturday.
