Kicking off
Portland State fielded its first football team in 1947, moving up from NCAA Division II to NCAA Football Championship Subdivision status in 1996.

Home, sweet home
The Vikings plays their homes games at 7,600-seat Hillsboro Stadium. The facility is also used for baseball, softball, soccer and lacrosse. It is also home to the Portland Stags of Major League Ultimate and the Portland Timbers of the MLS Next Pro soccer league.

A Mouse in the House
Under Mouse Davis (1975-80), Portland’s run-and-shoot offense averaged 38 points and nearly 500 yards of offense per game. The Vikings led the nation in scoring three times during his tenure and beat Delaware State 105-0 in 1980.

Notable alumni include musician and Grammy winner Courtney Love, Nancy Wilson of Heart and Casten Nerma, seventh president of the Marshall Islands.

The Vikings have made two FCS playoff appearances and are 0-2 in those games.
