Here are five true facts about the Big 12 Championship Game. The 2025 matchup features No. 4 Texas Tech and No. 11 BYU at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday, Dec. 6.

One

The first Big 12 Championship Game was played in 1996 at Trans World Dome in St. Louis, Mo., with Texas defeating Nebraska 37-27.

Two

There was no Big 12 Championship Game played between 2010 and 2016 because the NCAA had rules at the time requiring a conference to have 12 teams to hold a championship game (Nebraska and Colorado left the league in 2010).

Three

Of the current Big 12 members, only Kansas State (2), Colorado (1), Baylor (1) and Arizona State (1) have won championship games.

Four

Of the former members, Oklahoma (11), Texas (4), Nebraska (2) and Texas A&M (1) have won Big 12 Championship Games.

Five

The largest margin of victory in a Big 12 Championship Game was a 70-3 Texas drubbing of Colorado in 2005. The smallest margin of victory was one point, a 13-12 Longhorns win against Nebraska in 2009.
