LEXINGTON, Ky. — BYU women’s volleyball outside hitter Suli Davis and middle blocker Brielle Kemavor were both received American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America awards, the organization announced on Wednesday morning.

Davis was honored as a Second Team All-American, while Kemavor earned an Honorable Mention All-American nod.

Davis is the Cougars’ first Second Team All-American since 2018. The AVCA West Region Freshman of the Year, AVCA All-West Region First Team, Big 12 Freshman of the Year, All-Big 12 First Team and Big 12 All-Rookie Team honoree, broke BYU’s freshman kill records this season, finishing with 541 on the year.

The Euless, Texas native was the leading freshman nationally in both total kills and kills per set (4.55), and was also second in the Big 12 in both total kills and points. She had a team-high 10 double-doubles and led the Cougars with 30 double-digit kill matches, good for third-most in the BYU rally-scoring era.

Davis entered the transfer portal at the end of the season and has committed to play next season at SMU, which finished with a 27-6 record and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16.

Kemavor was also an All-West Region and All-Big 12 First Team honoree. She led the Big 12 with a .372 hitting percentage, had the fourth-most blocks in the conference, at 138, and the third-most kills on the team, at 253.

A Bristow, Virginia product, Kemavor posted team highs in blocks in 19 of the Cougars’ 31 matches, including 15 of their last 18 contests. She also had nine double-digit kills matches, with five in the last seven games.

This is the 15th-straight season that BYU has received at least one All-America citation. The Cougars have had 41 different student-athletes earn 118 citations in program history.

Three Cougars earn academic All-District honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. — Three BYU women’s volleyball student athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Tuesday morning.

Middle blocker Brielle Kemavor, outside hitter Elli Mortensen and libero Emma Barbero each earned the award that recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for performance both on the court and in the classroom.

Nominees must be at least a sophomore academically, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and compete in 90 percent of the institution’s matches played or start in at least 66 percent of the matches.

Academic All-District honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Student-athletes selected as finalists to advance to the national ballot are designated with an asterisk.

Those who are selected for first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2025. Kemavor was selected to advance to the national ballot.

Kemavor, an exercise science major with a 3.68 GPA, led the Cougars in blocks in 20 of their 31 matches this season. The junior also tallied double-digit kills in nine contests, conlcuding the year with a team-high .372 hitting percentage. This is Kemavor’s second All-District honor after receiving her first last season.

Mortensen holds a 3.96 GPA as an exercise and wellness major. She posted double-digit digs in three matches, adding 23 kills and 21 service aces to go along with 11 assists and six blocks, including the game-winning stuff at Utah Valley. The sophomore led BYU in aces in three matches in 2025.

Barbero, a microbiology major, boasts a 3.96 GPA. She led the team in digs in 11 matches and in aces in six. The junior finished the season with 215 digs, 81 assists, 20 aces and one kill. This is Barbero’s second All-District honor as well. She also recevied the award at Washington State last year.
