Big 12 Power Rankings, Bowl Edition: Eight league teams competing in postseason

Here’s our weekly power rankings of Big 12 teams with a look at their schedules and matchups.

1. No. 5 Texas Tech (12-1, 8-1 Big 12)

Last results: Jacob Rodriguez had 13 tackles and Ben Roberts made two interception as Texas Tech shut down BYU 34-7 in the Big 12 Championship Game on Dec. 6.

Game On: Thurs., Jan. 1 in CFP Quarterfinals/Capital One Orange Bowl, 10 a.m. MT (ESPN)

What’s Up? The Red Raiders and Oregon both rank in the Top 11 national for scoring offense and defense as well as total offense and defense, with Texas Tech currently in the top five of all four categories.

2. No. 11 BYU (11-2, 8-1 Big 12)

Last results: In a repeat of their first meeting, BYU hung with Texas Tech for two and a half quarters but couldn’t find enough offense in the Big 12 Championship Game, losing 34-7 on Dec. 6.

Game On: Saturday in Pop-Tarts Bowl vs. No. 22 Georgia Tech (9-3), 1:30 p.m. MT (ABC).

What’s Up? BYU and Notre Dame have agreed to a home-and-home series, with the Fighting Irish coming to Provo in 2026 and the Cougars traveling to South Bend in 2027.

3. No. 15 Utah (10-2, 7-2 Big 12)

Last results: Devin Dampier passed for three touchdowns and Elijah Davis returned an interception 97 yards for another score as No. 14 Utah came from behind to beat Kansas 31-21 on Nov 28.

Game On: Wed., Dec. 31 in SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl vs. Nebraska (7-5), 1:30 p.m. MT (ESPN).

What’s Up? Morgan Scalley was named Utah’s new head coach on December 13, replacing the departed Kyle Whittingham.

4. Arizona (9-3, 6-3 Big 12)

Last results: Noah Fifita threw for 286 yards and a touchdown and Arizona forced five turnovers in a 23-7 victory against rival Arizona State on Nov. 28.

Game On: Fri., Jan. 2 in Trust & Will Holiday Bowl vs. SMU (8-4), 6 p.m. MT (FOX).

What’s Up? General Manager Gaizka Crowley left for the same role at Arkansas, while running backs coach Alonzo Carter took the head coaching job at Sacramento State. Offensive assistant Lyle Moevao was elevated to take Carter’s place.

5. Arizona State (8-4, 6-3 Big 12)

Last results: Quarterback Jeff Sims threw three interceptions and fumbled twice as Arizona State lost to No. 25 Arizona 23-7 on Nov. 28.

Game On: Wed., Dec. 31 in Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl vs. Duke (8-5), noon MT (CBS).

What’s Up? Arizona hired Aaron Knotts as its next general manager after he 12 seasons at Washington, most recently as Director of Internal Operations and Football Strategy.

6. Houston (9-3, 6-3 Big 12)

Last results: Dean Connors scored on a 1-yard run with 1:57 remaining and Connor Weigman accounted for three touchdowns as Houston edged past Baylor 31-24 on Nov. 29.

Game On: Saturday in Kinder’s Texas Bowl vs. LSU (7-5), 7:15 p.m. MT (ESPN).

What’s Up? Head coach Willie Fritz has promoted Brian Bell to wide receivers coach. Bell was most recently an offensive assistant for the Cougars and replaces Derrick Sherman, who left to take a post at Iowa State. Michael Bishop has been hired from Legacy School of Sports Sciences as an offensive assistant.

7. Iowa State (8-4, 5-4 Big 12)

Last results: Rocco Becht threw a touchdown pass and Abu Sama ran for a score as Iowa State ended the regular season with a 20-13 victory against Oklahoma State on Nov. 29.

Game On: Opted out of post-season play because of a coaching change, season complete.

What’s Up? The Cyclones have named Washington State’s Jimmy Rogers as their new head coach, replacing Matt Campbell, who departed for Penn State. … Becht has entered the transfer portal after throwing for 9,274 yards and 65 touchdowns in his career in Ames.

8. TCU (8-4, 5-4 Big 12)

Last results: Josh Hoover threw four touchdown passes as TCU defeated Cincinnati 45-23 in a game delayed about 90 minutes in the first quarter due to lightning on Nov. 29.

Game On: Tues., Dec. 30 in Valero Alamo Bowl v. No. 16 USC, 7 p.m. MT (ESPN).

What’s Up? Hoover is entering the transfer portal after throwing for 9,629 yards and 71 touchdowns in his career with the Horned Frogs.

9. Cincinnati (7-5, 5-4 Big 12)

Last results: Cincinnati finished on a four-game losing streak that started when they were ranked No. 17 with a 45-23 loss to TCU on Nov. 29.

Game On: Fri., Jan. 2 in AutoZone Liberty Bowl vs. Navy (10-2), 2:30 p.m. MT (ESPN)

What’s Up? The Liberty Bowl will be the seventh meeting between Cincinnati and Navy, with the Bearcats winning 20-10 in 2022 while both teams were members of the American Conference.

10. Kansas State (6-6, 5-4 Big 12)

Last results: Joe Jackson rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns as Kansas State defeated Colorado 24-14 on Nov. 29.

Game On: Opted out of the post-season because of a coaching change, season complete.

What’s Up? The school’s new head coach is former Heisman finalist and Wildcats legend Collin Klein, who replaces the retired Chris Klieman. Klein comes from the staff at Texas A&M.

11. Baylor (5-7, 3-6 Big 12)

Last results: Baylor couldn’t hold on to a 15-point lead and lost to Houston 31-24 on Nov, 29.

Game On: Declined lower-tier bowl bids, season complete.

What’s Up? Running back Joseph Dodds, linebacker Ke’Breion Winston and linebacker Keaton Thomas have all entered the transfer portal. As a redshirt junior, Thomas finished with 105 tackles and started all 13 games.

12. Kansas (5-7, 3-6 Big 12)

Last results: Kansas outgained No. 13 Utah 477 yards to 414 but lost 31-21 on Nov. 28.

Game On: Declined lower-tier bowl bids, season complete

What’s Up? Demolition has begun on the east side of David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in a major rebuilding project. … Quarterback Jalon Daniels is out of eligibility and David McComb, a possible replacement, has entered the transfer portal.

13. UCF (5-7, 2-7 Big 12)

Last results: UCF jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead but No. 11 BYU outscored the Golden Knights 41-7 the rest of the way in a 41-21 loss on Nov. 29.

Game On: Declined lower-tier bowl bids, season complete.

What’s Up? The Golden Knights have hired veteran offensive line coach AJ Blazek from Wisconsin. … A major renovation project has begun at the Acrisure Bounce House, with the existing stadium tower facade and interiors being replaced.

14. West Virginia (4-8, 2-7 Big 12)

Last results: West Virginia managed just 180 yards of offense in a 49-0 shutout loss to No. 5 Texas Tech on Nov. 29.

Game On: Season complete.

What’s Up? Freshman cornerback Dawayne Galloway Jr., a former four-star recruit, is entering the transfer portal. Galloway did not play in 2025.

15. Colorado (3-9, 1-8 Big 12)

Last results: Colorado ended its season with a 24-14 loss to Kansas State on Nov. 29.

Game On: Season complete.

What’s Up? Linebacker Shaun Myers is entering the transfer portal, joining 17 other scholarship athletes who are expected to leave the program.

16. Oklahoma State (1-11, 0-9 Big 12)

Last results: Oklahoma State managed just 219 total yards and turned the ball over twice in a 20-13 loss to Iowa State on Nov. 29.

Game On: Season complete.

What’s Up? The Cowboys have hired Eric Morris away from North Texas to be the school’s new football coach. He replaces Mike Gundy, who was fired in late September.
