Baylor asserted themselves on the glass, out-rebounding the Cougars 42 to 33 and grabbed 18 offensive boards, leading to 18 second-chance points. The home team also forced 26 BYU turnovers that resulted in 18 points off turnovers for the Bears. Baylor’s bench also contributed 33 points to BYU’s 14.
The Cougars out-shot the Bears 53.8 to 41.9 percent from the field and 50.0 to 27.3 percent from behind the arc. BYU had three players finish with three or more assists and assisted on 15-of-28 made field goals in the game.
Delaney Gibb led the Cougars in five categories with 21 points, six rebounds, five assists, four steals and a block. Her 21-point outburst marks her 8th career game with 20 or more points and 14th game with 17 or more. Gibb also set a career high with four steals. Additionally, with six makes from the field, Gibb moved into sixth for made field goals (138) by a BYU freshman in program history.
Emma Calvert contributed 17 points to the cause, going 7-for-10 from the floor and knocking down her only offering from behind the arc. The Farr West, Utah native also pulled down six rebounds, dished three assists and recorded a block and a steal in the loss.

Cougar men’s volleyball sweeps UC Santa Barbara
No. 6 BYU men’s volleyball completed a two-match sweep of No. 15 UC Santa Barbara in back-to-back matches, with a three set finish (25-11, 25-22, 25-18) Saturday night at the Smith Fieldhouse.
“I think at times our team actually went beyond what they even believe in themselves,” said BYU head coach Shawn Olmstead. “That’s a good thing. We know we’ve been tested, and that’s crucial heading into conference play. I like the changes we’re making, with setting our middles more. We want to set them even more.”
Freshman middle blocker Niko Hales recorded eight kills on eight swings through the evening, hitting his second perfect match of the season. Keoni Thiim also contributed heavily with 10 kills, hitting .526 with six blocks.
Teon Taylor fueled the Cougars’ defensive efforts with a season high 11 blocks. In addition, Taylor recorded five kills on six attempts and notched an .833 clip.
“When the middles are doing well it really helps take the load off of our pins,” said Hales. “Throughout the season we have put a lot of pressure on Keoni and Luke to carry us through. When our middles can do well, it saves their shoulders and is good for their longevity as well.
BYU (8-4) completed the two-game stand undefeated, sweeping in three sets per match. The Cougars hit .403 through the Saturday night game with 34 kills, 19 digs and 15 blocks, holding UCSB to just three blocks.
The Cougars will head on the road to face Concordia University Irvine for a pair of matches in their first conference matchup of 2025. The first match is slated for 8 p.m. MT on Thursday, Feb. 13, with the broadcast available on Big 10 Network+.
BYU star Meghan Hunter breaks school 400-meter record
Meghan Hunter clocked 53.01 in the 400-meters to place fifth overall at the Millrose Games Saturday afternoon at The Armory in New York City.
Primarily an 800m runner, Hunter was invited to compete in an experienced 400m field at the Millrose Games. She clocked 53.01 to break the Cougars’ indoor 400m program record and place fifth overall in the event.
The senior was named the Big 12 Track & Field Athlete of the Week Feb. 5 following her NCAA-leading 800m time of 2:00.21 achieved Jan. 31 at the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston.
A two-time First Team All-American in the 800m, Hunter’s 400m record is her second BYU all-time mark in just nine days and her fifth throughout her collegiate career in Provo (indoor 400m, indoor 800m, distance medley relay, outdoor 4x400m and outdoor 4x800m).
“Being at Millrose was an incredible experience,” said Hunter. “It was such a fun atmosphere and I’m excited to continue this momentum through the rest of the season.”
Hunter, the BYU distance crews and throws squads will head to Washington to compete at the Husky Classic Feb. 14-15. The Cougar sprints, hurdles and jumps will travel to New Mexico for the Don Kirby Elite Invitational Feb. 14-15.
Cougar gymnastics sets season-high mark at Denver
The BYU gymnastics team scored a season-high 195.825 Friday night, coming in right behind No. 21 Denver’s 196.625.
Kylie Eaquinto competed in the all-around for the third time of her career, scoring a 38.750.
