BYU men’s hoops lines up Clemson at Madison Square Garden

The annual men’s college basketball doubleheader at Madison Square Garden will air of ESPN and feature BYU vs. Clemson at 6:30 p.m. ET and defending National Champion Florida vs. UConn at 9 p.m.
“BYU men’s basketball is extremely grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this year’s Jimmy V Classic to help raise funds for the V Foundation,” said Kevin Young said, BYU head men’s basketball coach. “We look forward to facing off against Clemson and seeing Cougar Nation pack The World’s Most Famous Arena.”
The matchup in Manhattan will be the third all-time meeting between the two schools and first non-NCAA Tournament game. The Cougars are 0-2 all-time against the Tigers, with losses in the 1980 and 1990 tournaments.
BYU returns to the site of the 1966 NIT Championship game where the Cougars defeated NYU 97-84 en route to their second title. Craig Raymond and Gary Hill scored 21 points apiece with Steve Kramer chipping in 20 points for the Cougars as they shot 59.0 percent from the field to defeat the Bobcats the World’s Most Famous Arena.
BYU also played at MSG in 2016 in the semifinals of the NIT against Valparaiso, dropping a 72-70 decision, getting 20 points, five assists and five rebounds in the final college performance of Kyle Collinsworth.
The Jimmy V Classic, named for legendary college basketball coach Jim Valvano annually raises money and awareness for the V Foundation for Cancer Research. The men’s Classic began in 1995 and is in its 31st year – 22nd at Madison Square Garden – and is part of ESPN’s V Week initiative, which utilizes platforms to talk to sports fans about the importance of cancer research. To date, ESPN has helped raise more than $262 million for the V Foundation since 1993. ESPN’s annual V Week has helped raise nearly $101 million over the past 18 years.
