If you were looking forward to that AJ Dybantsa-Darryn Peterson showdown on this year’s Big 12 basketball schedule, don’t blink.

BYU and Kansas are only slated to meet once during the regular season with the top-rated high school phenoms taking center stage, unless there is another game between the Cougars and Jayhawks during league tournament time.

Stay tuned.

The Big 12 made one of those fun summer scheduling announcements on Thursday, revealing the men’s and women’s league matchups for the the 2025-26 season. Although CBS Sports College Basketball Insider Jon Rothstein spoiled things a bit by teasing the games on social media Wednesday, it’s still a welcome news break to indicate the season isn’t really that far off.

As for BYU, the Cougars will play long-time rival Utah, Arizona and Texas Tech in a home and away format. The Cougars will face Arizona State, Colorado, national runner-up Houston, Iowa State, TCU and UCF in the Marriott Center and will travel for road games at Baylor, Cincinnati, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and West Virginia.

“The matchups for next season really get me excited about our third season as a member of the Big 12 Conference,” Cougar head coach Lee Cummard said. “This is the deepest basketball conference in the country, which means big-time games in historic arenas and hosting elite teams in the Marriott Center every night out. Our team is excited and ready for the challenge of competing against the best teams in the country.”

Cummard, who was hired to replace Amber Whiting in March, leads the Cougars into their third season as a Big 12 member. The schedule will consist of an 18-game slate with BYU facing each conference member once and three teams twice.

The Cougars will play a home-and-home series with the Arizona State Sun Devils, the Colorado Buffaloes and the Utah Utes during the 2025-26 season. This is the second straight season with two-game sets against the Sun Devils and Utes, while the Cougars will make their first trip to Boulder since the 2003 NCAA Tournament.

Last season BYU was 4-14 in Big 12 play (tied for 13th) with wins against 5-25 Houston (89-75), 10-22 Arizona State (77-67), 12-18 UCF (73-67) and an upset of then-No. 20 Oklahoma State (68-64). The Cougars were 3-6 in league play at the Marriott Center and 1-8 on the road.
