Turns out A.J. Dybansta isn’t the only BYU basketball player taking on international competition this summer.

BYU guard Delaney Gibb is set to suit up for the Canadian Senior National Team at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup in Santiago, Chile, June 28-July 6.

“We are excited for Delaney to have this opportunity to represent her country as a member of the senior national team,” said head coach Lee Cummard. “It will be a great learning experience as she continues to chase her goal of competing for Canada in the 2028 Olympics.”

Dybantsa, the No. 1 high school recruit in the country, committed to the BYU men’s program in December and will be playing for the US U-23 team in Switzerland beginning this weekend.

Gibb will make her first appearance with the Senior National Team in Chile as Canada takes on El Salvador in the first of four group stage games on Jun. 28 before facing Argentina on June 29. On Monday, Gibb and her squad take on Brazil before facing Argentina on July 2 in the final game of the group stage.

The top four teams in each group will advance to a single-elimination tournament beginning with the quarterfinals on July 4, followed by the semi-finals on July 5 and the Gold Medal Game on July 6. The team that wins the 2025 FIBA AmeriCup will automatically qualify for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Germany. The top six teams will advance to the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament in March 2026.

The 2025 Big 12 Freshman of the Year most recently participated in the Senior Women’s National Team Training Camp in the lead-up to the 2024 Paris Olympics. Prior to that, Gibb suited up for her home country in the 2023 U19 FIBA World Cup, averaging 10.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game en route to earning a bronze medal. She also helped the U17 team to a fourth-place finish at the 2022 FIBA World Cup while recording 9.6 points, 3.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds

Gibb is one of six active college players that will compete for the Senior National Team in Chile, along with North Carolina incoming freshman Taliyah Henderson, Michigan sophomore Syla Swords, South Carolina incoming freshman Agot Makeer, Villanova sophomore Jasmine Bascoe and Washington sophomore Avery Howell.

Dybantsa, who competed at Utah Prep in 2024-25, has been a dominating presence during the training camp period in Colorado Springs. The US U19 team will compete in Group D at the World Cup with Australia, Cameroon and France.
