No. 6 BYU men’s volleyball riding six-match win streak into showdown vs. No. 5 USC

Now the Cougars are primed to get back to the action.
BYU is set to host No. 5 USC in Provo for a top-ten conference matchup this weekend, with matches on Friday and Saturday.
The Cougars (12-4) are currently on a six-game win streak, after falling in four straight top-five matchups against Hawaii and UC Irvine. BYU also remained at No. 6 in this week’s 2025 AVCA National Collegiate men’s volleyball poll. BYU’s been listed at No. 6 in four different weeks this season, peaking at No. 5 in the first three weeks of the season.
Two weeks ago, BYU swept Barry University in Provo in three and four sets. Senior outside hitter Keoni Thiim led all players in kills with 17 through the two matches, with freshman middle blocker Gavin Chambers leading in blocks with seven.
Senior middle blocker Teon Taylor has finished with a .400 hitting percentage or better in BYU’s last eight matches, going a perfect five-for-five in BYU’s latest match against Barry on Saturday, Feb. 22.
The No. 5 Trojans (11-2) are traveling to Provo for their first conference competition on the road this season. USC is the NCAA leader in kills (13.69 kills/set), assists (12.51 assists/set), and blocks (2.83 blocks/set). USC is also second in hitting percentage nationally, with a .398 team clip. The Trojans’ two losses were to No. 2 UC Irvine (3-2, 3-0) two weeks ago.
USC is led by All-American junior outside hitter Dillon Klein who has reached double-digit kills in nine matches this season, averaging 4.16 kills per set.
BYU met USC in its final three matches of the 2024 season, splitting games in California to conclude the regular season and falling 3-2 to the Trojans in the opening round of the MPSF tournament. The last time USC was ranked ahead of BYU in the AVCA poll during a matchup was in 2022.
