Kerry Olsen, of Sandy, looks out onto the field during a timeout during a game between Brigham Young University and University of Wisconsin on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo.

Anyone who has attended BYU football games or watched them on television as probably seen Kerry Olsen.

Olsen, who is also known as Crazy Coug, has been a long-time supporter of Cougar sports and has become iconic with his wild blue wig and blue-and-white painted face. He can be found in the southwest corner of LaVell Edwards Stadium, cheering on his team in his well-known outfit regardless of the weather.

But Olsen is now facing his own fight.

He is battling prostate cancer with all the challenges that go with it, including the uncertainty of the future and the rising medical costs.

Will Moak is a friend of Olsen’s and fellow big-time BYU fan, as well as being the owner of the Chubby’s Cafe in Orem.

He decided he wanted to do something to help his friend during these tough times.

“Kerry has a big heart,” Moak said in a phone interview on Wednesday. “I know he’s been going through quite a bit lately.”

Moak decided to do a fundraiser to support Olsen’s battle, which will take place at Chubby’s on Thursday, March 13.

A portion of all the sales that are made at the restaurant on Thursday will be donated to support Olsen.

Olsen expressed his gratitude for the kindness on his Facebook page and said he will be at University Place to say thank you to everyone in person.

“Thanks in advance for anyone that can make it!” Olsen posted.

Chubby’s is located at 1087 S. 750 E. in Orem and will be open until 9 p.m. The cafe also announced on it’s @ChubbysOrem X account (formerly Twitter) that the “Game will be on and doors will open early for the @BYUMBB game at 10:30 a.m. This will be at the Orem location.”

For those unable to make it to the fundraiser, Olsen also has a Venmo account (@Kerry-Olsen) where donations can be made.
