College Roundup: Five Cougars, five Wolverines earn CSC Academic All-District honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Five BYU softball student-athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, the organization announced on Tuesday morning.

Catcher Lindy Milkowski, shortstop Hailey Morrow, outfielder Aleia Agbayani, pitcher Kaysen Korth and third baseman Keila Kamoku each received the academic award that recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for performance both on the field and in the classroom.

Nominees for the award must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and compete in 90 percent of the institution’s games played or start in at least 66 percent of the institution’s games. Pitchers must have made at least 17 appearances or pitched 35 innings.

Academic All-District honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America finalists are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members.

Those who are selected for first, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced June 17. Both Milkowski and Morrow were selected to advance to the national ballot.

Milkowski posted a 4.0 GPA in post-baccalaureate studies after graduating with a psychology degree from Eastern Illinois, where she recorded a 3.92 undergraduate GPA, prior to her arrival in Provo. The fifth-year senior led the Big 12 with 12 homers in conference play and also caught 18 runners stealing, which led the league and ranked No. 11 nationally.

Morrow is an exercise and wellness major with a 3.79 GPA. She led the team in doubles (8) and defensive assists (104), scored the seond-most runs (43), posted the third-most home runs (11), RBI (32), walks (22) and stolen bases (3), and had the third-best slugging percentage (.599).

Agbayani recorded a 3.69 GPA as a post-baccalaureate study student, tranferring to BYU a pair of seasons ago after graduating from Cal with a 3.6 undergraduate GPA. She led BYU in hit by pitches (6) and posted the team’s third highest on-base percentage (.443) and doubles (6) to go along with the fourth-most walks (19).

Korth has a 3.62 GPA as a communications major with a public relations emphasis. She paced the Cougars in ERA (2.25), wins (16), complete games (5), saves (5), innings pitched (124.2), strikeouts (102) and opposting batting average (.241) Her five saves were good for No. 13 in the nation and led the Big 12.

Kamoku graduated with a degree in communications, emphasizing in journalism and sports media, with a 3.56 GPA. She posted BYU’s second-most sacrifice flies (2) and fourth-most home runs (8), also finishing with the fifth-most runs (21) and total bases (59). Defensively, she was third on the team in assists (58).

UVU softball earns academic accolades

Utah Valley softball placed five student-athletes on the 2025 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team, the organization announced in a release on Tuesday.

Junior infielder Britney Moreno, senior outfielder Angelique Mann, sophomore outfielder Amber Rodriguez, sophomore infielder Peyton Hall, and sophomore pitcher and outfielder Avery Sapp were the team’s five selections, surpassing the previous program record of four set last season.

The award is given annually to student-athletes who maintain 3.5 cumulative GPA while also appearing in 90% of their team’s contests or starting 66%. Pitchers must appear in 17 games and pitch at least 25 innings to qualify.

Moreno, a business major from La Habra, California, posted a 3.5 GPA while earning first team All-WAC honors for the first time in her collegiate career. Moreno led the team in hits with 57 and runs scored with 33, while also finishing second in RBIs with 27.

Mann, a psychology major from Tallahassee, Florida, finished her degree this spring with a 3.98 cumulative GPA while also playing every inning for the Wolverines in center field. Mann led the team in doubles and stolen bases with 10 in both categories. This is Mann’s second Academic All-District honor after earning the distinction last season.

Rodriguez, a criminal justice major from Covina, California, recorded a 3.77 GPA this year while appearing in 41 games this season. Rodriguez recorded a team-best 15-game reached base streak from Feb. 22 against Buffalo to March 22 against Utah Tech, and played a pivotal part in the Wolverines’ semifinal run at the WAC Tournament with a team-high seven hits and five runs scored.

Hall, who hails from Spanish Fork, Utah, recorded a 3.79 GPA this term while starting all but two games for the Wolverines this season. Hall was one of the team’s top overall contributors this season, finishing tied for second in home runs and third in RBIs with 26. Hall led the team in RBIs during league play with 18.

Sapp, another native of Spanish Fork, Utah, built upon a strong freshman campaign with a stellar sophomore season, earning third team All-Mountain Region honors from the NFCA as a two-way player. Sapp was the workhorse on the pitching staff, tossing a team-high 139.1 innings with 97 strikeouts, while also adding a homer and nine RBIs as a hitter.
