BYU, UVU earn women’s soccer NCAA Tournament berths

After winning their first Big 12 Tournament title on Saturday, BYU was rewarded with a No 5 seed for the 2025 NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament.
The Cougars, which earned the No. 8 seed for the Big 12 Tournament, defeated top seed TCU, No. 5 Baylor and No. 7 Kansas to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA’s.
BYU will host in-state rival Utah State in the first round of the tournament on Friday at 6 p.m. MST on South Field. BYU and Utah State faced off earlier this season when the Cougars beat the Aggies 2-0 in Provo.
Going 11-6-4 in the regular season, the Cougars finished with a TopDrawerSoccer ranking of No. 12 and an RPI ranking of No. 20.
Under the direction of head coach Jennifer Rockwood, BYU has now earned a spot in the NCAA tournament 26 times in 31 years. The Cougars have been to nine Sweet Sixteens, five Elite Eights, one College Cup semifinals and one College Cup finals appearance in 2021. Last year, the Cougars earned a No. 7 seed and hosted Santa Clara in the first round, falling 1-0 on South Field.
First-round games will be played on Nov. 14-Nov. 16 at 32 different campus sites. The second- and third-round games will occur at eight campus sites, and those rounds will take place Nov. 20 and 23, with the quarterfinals on Nov. 28 or 29.
The 2025 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer College Cup is scheduled to take place Dec. 5 and 8 at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.
UVU earns at-large bid to NCAA’s
The Utah Valley women’s soccer team was given an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and will travel to Boulder to take on No. 12 Colorado at Prentup Field. Kickoff is Friday at 7 p.m. MT.
The Wolverines will make their fifth NCAA Tournament appearance and their first since 2022. The programs have met once previously, a 3-0 Colorado win in Boulder on Sept. 13, 2018.
The first-round matchup will feature the nation’s top two leading goal scorers: Utah Valley’s Faith Webber (22 goals) leads the nation and Colorado’s Hope Leyba (21) is tied for second. Colorado is ranked No. 12 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top-25 poll.
Colorado enters the match at 15-3-3 overall after a run to the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament. Utah Valley finished the season 14-4-3 and won a fourth straight WAC regular-season championship (9-0-1, 28 points). The Wolverines went 1-0-1 at the WAC Tournament, falling on penalty kicks to California Baptist in the championship game.
Utah Valley is 1-4 all time in NCAA Tournament games; the program’s lone tournament victory came in the 2020 tournament (played in spring 2021), a 1-0 win over Memphis.
