Hedengren eases to win at NCAA Mountain Regionals, BYU women, men second in team finals

BYU freshman Jane Hedengren cross the finish line first at the NCAA Mountain Regionals in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025.SALT LAKE CITY – Led by Jane Hedengren’s first-place mark of 19:06.60, the No. 1 Cougars finished second in the NCAA Mountain Regionals at the Regional Athletic Complex, earning a bid to next week’s NCAA Championship.
For the third straight race, the freshman finished at the top of the leaderboard, this time by over 42 seconds. After racing closely with New Mexico’s Pamela Kosgei, Hedengren pulled away and kept extending the gap from there.
The team finished with 47 points, two behind the Lobos. Northern Arizona took third with 76 and Colorado and Utah rounded out the top five with 106 and 120 points.
BYU’s second runner was third-place Riley Chamberlain with her 19:52.80. In all five races this season, the Loomis, California native has notched a podium finish.
All of the Cougars’ top five runners were among the top 20. Senior Taylor Rohatinsky took ninth with her 20:28.10 with Carmen Alder and Lexi Goff-Thompson taking 16th and 18th, respectively.
Cougar men take second in NCAA Mountain Regionals
BYU men’s Cross Country scored 67 points and finished second to qualify for the NCAA National Championship Friday morning.
Freshman standout Tayvon Kitchen finished in stride with Senior teammate Davin Thompson to take fifth and sixth overall crossing the line in 30:09.6 and 30:09.7 respectively. Sophomore Noah Jenkins came across the line third for the Cougars finishing 10th overall in 30:15.3.
Sophomore Max Davis and Senior James Corrigan rounded out the top five for the Cougars finishing in 21st and 25th overall in 30:44.0 and 30:56.9.
“The Regional meet is about qualifying for the national meet. We did just that, and actually we came in wanting to run easy and take third or fourth. We exceeded that goal by taking second to secure the automatic berth.” Head coach Ed Eyestone said, “This sport is all about momentum and between the Big 12 championship two weeks ago and today we really have that momentum on our side.”
With a second place team finish BYU automatically qualifies to compete at the NCAA National Championship on November 22nd.
All five scorers for BYU finished in the top 25 tabbing them as All-Region athletes for the Mountain Region.
Both the men’s and women’s programs will compete in the NCAA National Championship on Saturday, Nov. 22 at Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Missouri. The event will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
