BYU men’s basketball coach Kevin Young has built his first two rosters by mixing key returners with big-time transfers and highly ranked high school recruits.

For his next trick, Young is digging into his bag to lure the best junior college talent he can find to Provo.

Numerous recruiting sources have indicated that KJ Perry, a 6-foot-3 combo guard from Citrus College in California, has committed to play for the Cougars.

According to 247 Sports, Perry is the top-ranked JUCO recruit this cycle and will transfer mid-year (January) to Provo, where he will redshirt and compete for BYU in 2026-27 with three years of eligibility remaining.

“I chose BYU because of the vision Coach Young and Coach (Brandon) Dunson have for me,” Perry told 247 Sports. “I believe in the trust they’ve shown and in what they’re building in Provo, something special that I want to be a part of.”

Perry averaged 17.5 points, 2.8 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game for Citrus College and scored 48 points in one game as a season high. He had offers from dozens of schools including North Carolina State, Kansas, Cincinnati, Oregon and Texas A&M. According to 247, he had taken visits to USC, SMU, TCU and BYU.

Perry was a three-star prospect out of Palisades Charter School in Palisades, Calif., and committed to Cal State-Northridge. But he opted to go the JUCO route instead. A strong freshman season and an impressive performance during the July live period sparked interest around the country. BYU offered Perry in July and he made a visit to the campus in September.

“I’m bringing an athletic point guard who can score, get teammates involved, and be a defensive dog,” Perry told 247 Sports. “I’m excited to play for the culture in Provo and can’t wait to get on campus.”

BYU has already received a 2026 commitment from 6-8 four-star forward Dean Reuckert, who plays at Timpview High School in Provo. Another four-star recruit, Austin Goosby, is a 6-5 combo guard from Melissa, Texas, who will visit Young and the Cougars later this month. He has offers from BYU, Texas, Duke, Baylor, Kansas and Miami, among others.
