But the BYU freshman made herself right at home at United Supermarkets Arena on Saturday, posting 19 kills and hitting .395 in a three-set sweep (25-17, 25-17, 26-24) sweep of Texas Tech.

The No. 19 Cougars (16-3, 4-3 Big 12) also got 14 kills from Claire Little Chambers, topping off an offense that hit .327 for the match with just 10 errors, a big improvement over the 27 miscues in Thursday’s five-set loss to No. 7 Arizona State.

Alex Bower finished one dig short of her fourth double-double in the last five matches, totaling 36 assists and nine digs to go along with a trio of kills.

Sophia Callahan tallied five kills and recorded a game-high four blocks, tying a season high. Brielle Kemavor, who added six kills, and Abby Hoybjerg each had three blocks.

BYU held the Red Raiders to a .208 hitting percentage. The Cougars recorded 10 more kills (49-39) than the Red Raiders and also out-blocked them, eight to six.

BYU led from start to finish in the first set, opening up an early 8-4 lead as Sophia Callahan, Claire Little Chambers, Suli Davis, Alex Bower and Abby Hoybjerg each recorded kills.

The Cougars went in front 15-9 at the media timeout on a Bower-Hoybjerg double block before forcing a Texas Timeout at 19-13. After a Brielle Kemavor solo stuff and Elena Wallace kill, seeing her first action at BYU, Little Chambers finished things off with an ace, 25-17.

Led by Little Chambers’ six kills and Davis’ five, BYU hit .420 in the opener while holding the Red Raiders to a .212 clip.

In a second set that featured a trio of both ties and lead changes, the Cougars faced a 6-3 deficit before fighting back to take a 9-7 lead thanks to three TTU errors and a Davis kill.

Trading points from there, BYU led 15-12 at the media timeout. A 3-0 run down the stretch put the Cougars in front 20-14 before a Kemavor slam led into a second 3-0 span that closed out the set, 25-17.

The third frame saw 10 ties and four lead changes, with the two teams battling to a 14-all tie before Texas Tech gained a 15-14 advantage at the media timeout.

TTU scored five of the next eight from there, forcing both of BYU’s timeouts. Kemavor and Davis helped the Cougars trade points with the Red Raiders, and a Little Chambers kill drew BYU within one, bringing up a Tech timeout at 23-22.

After tying the set at 23, TTU earned set point, which BYU fought off on a Davis kill. Hoybjerg and Callahan teamed up for a double block to draw match point, forcing the Red Raiders’ second timeout, before Callahan ended things on a solo stuff, as the Cougars closed the match on a 3-0 run for a 26-24 set win.

BYU will play two more matches in the state of Texas next week, beginning with No. 20 Baylor on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. CDT on ESPN+. The Cougars finish their Lone Star trip at No. 11 TCU on Saturday.
