The Lead: Cougars get road win at East Carolina, 34-13

BYU linebacker Isaiah Glasker reacts to a big defensive play against East Carolina in a college football game on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025..Once again, the BYU defense carried the team until the offense could catch up and the Cougars earned their first road win on the season, defeating East Carolina 34-13 in Greenville, N.C., on Saturday.
A pick six by Evan Johnson just before the half gave BYU a 13-3 lead and freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier got untracked in the second half, moving the Cougars on three touchdown drives.
The BYU defense was once again dominant but tired in the second half, finally allowing a touchdown for the first time in three games this season.
Bachmeier finished 18 of 25 for 246 yards and a touchdown while rushing for another score. He completed seven passes in a row at one point in the second half and was 9 of 11 throwing the ball after halftime.
LJ Martin scored his first touchdown this season and finished with his third straight 100-yard rushing game (14 carries, 101 yards).
BYU (3-0) might be a ranked team when they travel to Boulder to play Colorado next Saturday at 8:15 p.m. MT on ESPN.
