BYU's Richie Saunders defends in a Big 12 men's basketball game against Cincinnati at the Marriott Center on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2025.The best thing you can say about the Big 12 men’s basketball schedule is “it’s a grind.”
BYU enters Year 3 in the Big 12 as one of the favorites, a far cry from where they were expected to finish the first two seasons. In 2023-24, the Cougars were picked to finish 13th (out of 16) and ended up seventh. Last season, BYU was selected ninth in the preseason coaches poll and ended up tied for third, winning nine straight games late in the year.
The path to what’s next is now set in stone.
The Big 12 Conference released its 2025-26 schedule on Tuesday, announcing the dates of the Cougars’ 18-game league schedule. The announcement finalizes BYU’s 31-game regular season schedule.
BYU opens Big 12 play on the road for a first time when they travel to the Little Apple on Jan. 3 to take on Kansas State. The Cougars host Arizona State on Jan. 7, before making the short trip up north to face Utah at the Huntsman Center on Jan. 10 for the first of two games in a span of 14 days.
The Cougars host TCU on Jan. 14, marking the Horned Frogs’ first trip to the Marriott Center since BYU overcame a 17-point halftime deficit in an 87-75 victory on March 2, 2024. A trip to the Lone Star State to face Texas Tech on Jan. 17 is followed by the first two-game homestand for the Cougars during league play.
The Cougars welcome the Utes to the Marriott Center on Saturday, Jan. 24, before hosting Arizona for Big Monday, Jan. 26. Three of the next four games are on the road, beginning with a trip to Allen Fieldhouse to face-off against Kansas on Jan. 31. Their fourth-ever trip to Stillwater to play Oklahoma State on Feb. 4 is followed by a battle of the Cougars on Feb. 7 when Houston and BYU meet in the Marriott Center.
BYU returns to Texas to face Baylor on Feb. 10 before welcoming Colorado to the Marriott Center on Feb. 14. BYU makes the return trip to Arizona on Feb. 18, looking to win the Cougars’ third-straight at the McKale Center.
BYU concludes the regular season with three of its last five games in Provo, beginning with a two-game homestand against Iowa State (Feb. 21) and UCF (Feb. 24). The Cougars make the trip to Morgantown for a third consecutive season to face West Virginia on Feb. 28 before facing Cincinnati on March 3. The season finale will be against Texas Tech on March 7.
The Philips 66 Big 12 Championship will take place on March 10-14 at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo.
The level of excitement for the 2024-25 season has been building to a fever pitch ever since the nation’s No. 1 recruit, AJ Dybantsa, chose the Cougars on Dec. 10 of last year. Since then, head coach Kevin Young and his coaching staff have put together perhaps the most talented roster to ever don the BYU uniform. There’s also a challenging non-conference schedule that includes exhibition games against Nebraska and North Carolina and neutral site matchups with Villanova, UConn, Wisconsin and Clemson.
