Recruiting never really sleeps and BYU picked up a couple of local commitments on Monday.

It appears good things come in pairs for the Cougars, since both commits have teammates who have previously pledged to BYU.

Lehi running back Devaughn Eka joined teammate Legend Glasker committing to the Cougar football team and Timpview big man Will Openshaw, teammate of BYU commit Dean Rueckert, also indicated he was going to play hoops for Kevin Young and the Cougars men’s basketball program.

Here are the details.

Eka (5-11 185) is a three-star recruit who had also received interest from San Diego State, Idaho State, Montana State and Northern Arizona.

As a a three-year starter for the Pioneers, Eka has totaled 2,815 yards on 405 carries (7.0 yards per carry) and scored 34 touchdowns. He’s also caught 77 passes for 763 yards and six more scores.

Against one of the top teams in Class 6A, Skyridge, last week, Eka rushed 20 times for 137 yards and two touchdowns, including a 45-yard scamper. He also caught one pass for 32 yards.

Eka has good speed and elusiveness, and is a versatile running back who can catch the ball out of the backfield as well.

Glasker was receiving interest from Kansas State, Utah, Cal and Colorado State and committed to BYU in March.

In just 13 total games for Lehi, Glasker has 57 catches for 1,145 yards (20.1 yards per reception) and 18 touchdowns.

The 6-2, 180-pound four-star wide receiver caught six passes for 120 yards and a 75-yard touchdown against Skyridge.

He’s a cousin to BYU linebacker Isaiah Glasker.

Openshaw, a 6-10 forward, chose BYU over interest from Stanford, Cal and Utah, among others. Last season, he averaged 10.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game, doubling his output from his sophomore season.

Openshaw can swing between a couple of post positions for BYU and has good shooting range for a player his size.

The 6-8 Rueckert is a four-star who committed to the Cougars in August. He was also courted by Washington, Clemson, Stanford and Utah, among others. On 247 Sports, Rueckert was ranked as the No. 68 recruit in the country.

In his career, Rueckert has averaged 16.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

Starting at $4.32/week.
