BYU guard Delaney Gibb is set to suit up for the Canadian senior national team at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico, August 17-23.

The pre-qualifying tournament marks the first step in Team Canada’s quest to qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, with the winner earning an automatic bid to the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in 2028.

Gibb and Team Canada, ranked seventh in the latest FIBA World Ranking Presented by Nike, were selected to Group B alongside No. 22 Senegal, No. 30 Philippines and No. 31 Mexico. Group A consists of No. 9 Brazil, No. 21 New Zealand, No. 23 Argentina and No. 42 South Sudan.

Canada will play a single round-robin format within its group. Following the three group-play games, the top two teams in each group will advance to the semifinals, with the tournament winner advancing to the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in 2028.

The tournament opens Monday, Aug. 17, as Canada takes on Senegal at 5:30 p.m. MT. Team Canada then faces the Philippines on Aug. 19 at 5:30 p.m. MT before concluding group play against Mexico on Aug. 20 at 8:30 p.m. MT.

This marks Gibb’s second appearance in a FIBA event with the senior national team. Her first came at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup, where she helped Canada earn a bronze medal. The rising junior appeared in all seven games, averaging 9.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists en route to a 6-1 record.

The Raymond, Alberta, native went 3-for-8 from the field and 2-for-4 from 3-point range while adding five rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block in the bronze-medal game. Gibb also connected with Michigan’s Syla Swords for the game-winning assist in double overtime to lift Canada to a 76-75 victory over Argentina.

Gibb also faced off against the reigning NCAA champion UCLA on July 22 as part of Canada’s W’Hoop it Up event. The BYU floor general scored five points, grabbed two rebounds and recorded an assist and a steal in the 69-55 win over the Bruins.

Former Cougar guard Maria Albiero will also appear in the pre-qualifying tournament next week as she suits up for Brazil.

Starting at $4.32/week.
