Big 12 releases basketball matchups for 2026-27
- BYU’s Robert Wright III goes up for a shot against Colorado in a Big 12 men’s basketball game at the Marriott Center on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026.
- BYU’s Olivia Hamlin (7) drives around Iowa State’s Evangelia Paulk in a Big 12 women’s basketball game at the Marriott Center on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2026.
The old “home-and-home” design for conference play was pretty easy to follow: One game at your place against a league opponent, one game at their place.
Repeat.
Conference realignment has made a mess of that cozy little setup, hasn’t it?
The Big 12 Conference released the matchups for men’s and women’s basketball in 2026-27 on Thursday — they call it the “scheduling matrix” — which declares a certain number of opponents for home and away games, home games only and road games only.
That’s an 18-game gauntlet for both the men’s and women’s basketball teams in the Big 12.
A “scheduling matrix,” indeed.
According to the league, opponents were selected to best balance the schedule in terms of travel and competitiveness.
The home-and-home series for the Cougars in Year 3 of the Kevin Young Era will be Utah, Arizona and TCU. Last year BYU did the home-and-home with Utah, Arizona and Texas Tech. Interestingly, the Cougars could end up playing Arizona four times next season: The two teams are both part of the field at the Maui Invitational and could also meet in the Big 12 Tournament.
The Cougars will host Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Cincinnati and West Virginia while making the trip to Arizona State, Colorado, Iowa State, Texas Tech, Houston and UCF.
A full Big 12 schedule, including dates and times, will be released at a later date.

The Big 12 Conference also announced its 2025-26 women’s basketball scheduling matrix on Thursday.
Second-year head coach Lee Cummard will lead the Cougars through an 18-game conference slate that includes home-and-home series with three teams and single matchups against the other 12 conference opponents, either at home or on the road.
BYU will face the Arizona Wildcats, Colorado Buffaloes and Utah Utes in home-and-home series. The Cougars will face the Utes and Buffaloes at the Marriott Center and on the road for the second consecutive season, while taking the trip to Tucson and hosting the Arizona Wildcats for the first time since 2024.
