BYU Roundup: Robinson’s walk-off homer gives Cougars win in home finale

BYU's Ryder Robinson hit a walk-off home run to beat Kansas in a Big 12 baseball game at Miller Park on Saturday, May 16, 2026.BYU concluded its regular season at Miller Park Saturday, with junior shortstop Ryder Robinson hitting a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th.
Robinson’s homer traveled 374 feet and gave BYU a 5-4 win over No. 14 Kansas. Robinson’s right-field shot marked his fourth hit of the game. The American Fork, Utah, native also doubled once and collected two RBIs.
BYU (27-27; 14-16) outhit the Kansas (39-16;22-8) on Saturday 15-10 and stranded one less runner on base. The Cougars had three doubles and homered twice.
The Jayhawks got on top early for the third straight game, leading 3-0 in the third inning. BYU got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third with a single to center field from Robinson bringing home Luke Anderson from third, shrinking the Jayhawks’ advantage to 3-1.
After holding KU scoreless for four straight innings, the Cougars tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the sixth on a single from Tu’alau Wolfgramm followed by a two-run home run to right field in the next at-bat from Matt Hansen.
The Cougars took their first lead of the game and the series in the bottom of the eighth. After Hansen was hit by a pitch, Ryker Schow entered the game as a pinch runner. Bryker Hurdsman then doubled to center field, bringing in Schow from first for a 4-3 BYU lead.
Kansas tied things at 4-4 in the top of the ninth on a one-out sacrifice fly. BYU was unable to score in the bottom half of the inning, sending the contest to extra innings.
After right-handed reliever Dan Brousseau held Kansas scoreless through the 10th and 11th innings, Robinson recorded BYU’s third walk off home run home of the year for a 5-4 victory.
BYU travels to the Big 12 Baseball Championship presented by Allstate in Surprise, Arizona, with its first game set for Tuesday, May 19 against Texas Tech.
Hedengren wins 5,000 meters, Cougar women finish second at Big 12 Championships
TUCSON, Ariz. – Jane Hedengren led BYU to a runner-up finish as she won the 5000-meter at the Big 12 Championships at Drachman Stadium on Saturday night.
The Cougars took second in the team competition with 108 points. Texas Tech was crowned the champion with 119.5 points, while Arizona, Iowa State and Baylor rounded out the top five.
Winning by almost 25 seconds, Hedengren won the 5000m in 15:26.94. The freshman set a facility record in the process and added 10 points to BYU’s team score. Senior Jenna Hutchins took third in 15:53.41, while Taylor Lovell, Taylor Rohatinsky and Carmen Alder also reached the podium as they took sixth, seventh and eighth.
Lovell claimed the Big 12 steeplechase title on Friday, finishing the race in 9:40.98.
Five Cougars totaled 20 points in the 1500m final, with Hedengren leading the way with a third-place finish in 4:10.24. The performance earned her the seventh-fastest time in program history. Alder took fourth in 4:12.55, Carlee Hansen-Thompson fifth in 4:12.96. Hutchins and Rohatinsky took sixth and seventh in 4:13.41 and 4:13.66, respectively.
Kali McEuen set a school record in the 400m hurdles, crossing in 55.88 for fourth. She finished less than half a second behind first place. She is the first Cougar to ever break 56 seconds in the event.
Tessa Buswell posted a 2:06.23 in the 800m for her second-straight conference runner-up finish, including indoor season. The sophomore posted seven points.
Cutting cruises to Big 12 men’s 1,500-meter title
TUCSON, Arizona – Carter Cutting took the 1500-meter championship on the third and final day of Big 12 Champions at Drachman Stadium Saturday evening.
Cutting captured the title behind a 3:58.63 performance that featured a final lap where the junior overtook seven opponents to crown himself the champion. With 200-meters left Cutting was forced to move to the third lane to overtake his opponents around the final bend where a strong finish allowed him to close the distance to capture his second big 12 title this year.
Cutting also podiumed in the 800-meter final taking fifth overall in a time of 1:47.88.
The 4×400-meter relay squad featuring Josh Taylor, Jonah Heimuli, Ben Barton and Ty Oustrich took second at the meet in 3:03.71. BYU also competed in the 4×100-meter relay with a team that was composed of Taylor, Barton, Treyton Anderson and Jayden Jessee taking fifth while crossing the line in 40.01 seconds.
Mark Bryant captured second in the discus with a throw of 58.08m/190-7 Bryant’s second place performance marks a career personal record in the event, an improvement of over four meters from his previous best.
Tayvon Kitchen headlined the 5000-meter for the Cougars finishing fourth in a time of 13:52.52 with teammate Isaac Hedengren just behind him in sixth with a 13:54.77 finish.
The Cougars finished the meet with 82.33 points to take sixth as a team behind Iowa State, Kansas State, Houston, host Arizona and Big 12 team champions Texas Tech.
