Each week, the Daily Herald highlights the opponent for BYU football.

1. Origins

Utah Tech was originally founded as Dixie Junior College in 1911 but went Division II in 2006.

2. What’s in a name

The program’s nickname was “Rebels” until 2016, when it became “Trailblazers.” The school changed its name to Utah Tech in 2021.

3. Welcome to the new

Utah Tech joined the Big Sky Conference in July, its third conference since jumping to Division I in 2020.

4. Home sweet home

Utah Tech plays in Greater Zion Stadium (10,000) in St. George.

5. A new experience

Saturday’s game marks the first time Utah Tech will face an FBS Power 4 Conference opponent.
