The freshman wide receiver added to his ever-growing, well, legend with his first 100-yard receiving game in the Cougars’ 41-23 victory against Colorado State on Saturday.

Overshadowed a bit by LJ Martin’s dominating performance, Glasker’s one-handed 70-yard reception on BYU’s second possession is something else for fans to talk about. Facing one-on-one coverage, Glasker accelerated and held off his defender for the big play.

“Dude, it was cool,” Glasker said. “To be honest, I haven’t seen it yet. I didn’t even know I caught it with one hand. He (the defensive back) was trying to grab my arm so I was trying to get separation and it literally just fell right in my arm. It was a good ball.”

Glasker finished with a career-high five catches and 131 yards, while also running three times for 21 yards and a score.

“He can do that all the time,” BYU head coach Kalani Sitake said. “I think Fesi (WR coach Fesi Sitake) knew right away when we were recruiting him how to use him and we knew that he was going to be something special. I told you guys, and I kept saying it.

“I’m really glad that Legend is growing up really fast. The growth that I’ve seen from him from fall camp to Game 1, and from Game 1 to Game 3, it’s amazing. The sky’s the limit for him. So I’m just going to tell him to stay humble. He’s already a humble young man, He works hard and he deserves everything that’s coming his way.”

We’ve heard this before

Early in the game, the all-too-familiar chant of “F-the-Mormons!” was heard from Colorado State’s student section.

In the fourth quarter, Colorado State responded with a new release reading, “Colorado State University apologizes to BYU, it’s student-athletes and fans, and to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the chant directed at them during Saturday’s game.

“Mocking anyone’s faith has no place at CSU. It runs counter to our community’s values and to who we are. BYU’s players, coaches and fans deserved better. We are addressing this with our students.”

When asked about the chants, Sitake responded, “Listen, everyone is human and I’m not going to dwell on that. I know there are amazing people that are Colorado State fans and alumni and I’m just going to focus on the beautiful people that are the positives. You can’t judge an entire fan base on a few, so that’s what we’re going to focus on. The environment here was awesome and the fans are excited about the team.”

Mending

Running back Sione Moa and safety Raider Damuni were out due to injury for the second straight game and were joined on the sidelines by starting tight end Roger Saleapaga, starting offensive lineman Kyle Sfarcioc and wide receiver Tiger Bachmeier.

BYU went with Walker Lyons (two catches, 40 yards) and Keayen Nead at tight end against Colorado State and redshirt senior Trevin Ostler (6-4, 320) played in place of Sfarcioc at guard, making his first career start.

“It was going to be a game-time decision for both those guys (Saleapaga and Sfarcioc),” Sitake said. “I felt good about what Trevin Ostler was doing for our line and we feel good about our depth there. We used Bott Mulitalo quite a bit, too. We just felt like if we made a decision to hold him (Sfarcioc) this game, that we would definitely get him back for TCU. Same thing with Roger.

“As we make those decisions, let’s do what’s best for the young man and what’s going to be better for their longevity.”

Captains for the Colorado State game were junior safety Faletau Satuala, junior cornerback Trey Alexander and junior tight end Walker Lyons. … Team flags were carried by Kelepi Latu-Finau (USA), Siosiua Latu-Finau (Colorado), Team (Andrew Gentry) and Team (equipment manager Nick Rodriguez). … Alumni flags were carries by former Cougars Keiffer Longson (2016-2020), Russell Tialavea (2005-09, 2012) and Austin Chambers (2005-09). … Notable “firsts” included tight end Keayen Nead’s first catch, kicker Matthias Dunn’s first field goal, defensive end and Hunter Clegg’s first interception. … The game was announced as a sellout at Canvas Stadium (36,500), though there were many empty seats above concourse left by fans perhaps chased away by the storms blasting through Fort Collins before kickoff. The game was delayed 45 minutes due to the weather.
