Mountain View's Lucas Bautista (12) holds up the football after recovering a fumble against Timpanogos on Friday, Sept. 2, 2022.

Head Coach: Abe Poduska (3rd season)

2022 record: 1-9 overall, 1-6 Region 7

Playoffs: None

Players to Watch: Lotoa Lesa, Jr. QB (6-3, 215), Tanginoa Teaupa, Jr. OL/DL, Michael Earnest, Jr. OL/DL, Logan Lunt, Jr. WR/DB (6-0, 165), Beau Peterson, Jr. ATH.

Outlook: As one of the smaller programs in the state, Mountain View has had a tough time staying healthy and finding success in recent years. Bruin head coach Abe Poduska is looking for that to start changing.

“We’re looking for more success this year from our boys,” Poduska said. “They’ve worked harder than we’ve worked in years past. They really want it, so anything we’ve asked them to do, they’ve done it. We’re looking for some real positives here.”

While Mountain View dropped down to Class 4A, victories still are going to be tough to come by as the Bruins build for the future. But the challenges have forged the athletes into a tight-knit group.

“The strength of this team is just the bond that kids have with each other,” Poduska said. “A lot of times sports throw around the word family, but they really do feel that way towards each other. This team is very close. I think that genuine friendship is going to push them to play for each other, which is really makes coaching fun.”

He said Region 8 may be in a different spot but it is full of teams Mountain View already knows, so it’s just a matter of being ready to face good competition.

Program Hero: “Senior Lucas Bautista is kind of the team glue. He was going to start at receiver and defensive back but tore his labrum in the offseason. In spite of his injury, he’s out here with incredible energy. He’s shown up to camp and practice. He just makes our practices better even though he’s injured. He’s just a Bruin. He told me, ‘Coach, I’m not going anywhere. I’m going to be out there.’ He’s had a big impact on the team already.” – Abe Poduska
