The Timpview football team runs onto the field before their game against Skyridge on Friday, Sept. 9, 2022. The game was played at Mountain View due to construction on the Timpview campus.

Head Coach: Donny Atuaia (2nd season)

2022 record: 10-3 overall, 3-1 Region 8

Playoffs: No. 2 seed, lost to No. 1 Lehi 29-23 (3OT) in 5A championship

Players to Watch: Tei Nacua, Sr. WR/DB (6-2, 190), Quezon Villa, Sr. ATH (6-0, 190), Aisa Galeai, So. WR/DB (6-0, 170), Helaman Casuga, So. QB (6-0, 170), Pakaroa Haunga, Sr. LB

Outlook: It has been nine months since Timpview came heartbreakingly close to winning another state title, coming up just short in a classic championship battle against Lehi.

But the Thunderbirds aren’t looking backward, particularly since they have a new group of guys ready to step up in 2023.

“We rebuild every year in high school,” Timpview head coach Donny Atuaia said. “This year we have a lot of excited young players who are wanting to show what they can do. Now I’m looking to see how well we can put everything together. We’ve worked hard and I think it is going to be fun to see.”

Even though his squad lost some big-time playmakers, Atuaia still believes that leadership is the team’s biggest strength.

“Whenever that comes into play, I think our team is going to do well,” Atuaia said. “What our seniors build off from last year is going to be key. We have great experience at quarterback and with our receivers, so I think those are the guys we are going to rely on.”

The Thunderbirds won’t have to worry about running into Lehi this year (the Pioneers are now in 6A) but there are a host of other 5A teams with big dreams and Timpview will have to face tough battles against region opponents like Orem and Springville.

Program Hero: “Noah Molinaro is a senior for us and wears No. 52. He hasn’t gotten a lot of playing time on the field but his time on the practice field and anywhere on the sideline for us is tremendously valuable to our team. He is very animated and uplifting, just a great person to be around.” – Donny Atuaia
