PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Ava Burgess, So. OH, Lone Peak

The mark of a great player is how well they compete when everything is on the line, and Burgess was money during Lone Peak’s state tournament run to the 6A championship. Burgess totaled 77 kills in four tournament matches, including 24 in the quarterfinals vs. Skyridge, 22 in a come-from-behind, five-set win against Mountain Ridge in the semifinals and 20 in the finals vs. Pleasant Grove. For the season, Burgess had 192 kills (3.7 per set) and hit .248, along with 21 aces, 22 blocks and 152 digs.

OFFENSIVE MVP: Ella Robbins, Jr. OH, Salem Hills

Robbins was a nearly unstoppable force for the Skyhawks, finishing her junior year with 469 kills, which was seventh in the state and third in Class 5A. She averaged 4.6 kills per set while hitting a healthy .382, second in the state. Robbins also was sixth in blocks in 5A (71) and 11th in aces (56).

DEFENSIVE MVP: Avrie Valgardson, Sr. S, Pleasant Grove

Valgardson was the engine that made the Vikings go. She finished with 793 assists (7.1 per set) but did so much more than run the offense. Valgardson added 151 kills (1.3 per set), 51 aces, 70 blocks and 243 digs (2.2 per set) in leading Pleasant Grove to the No. 1 seed in the 6A tournament and a second-place finish.

SETTER MVP: Sarah Page Jr. S, Orem

The key to the Tigers offense was Page’s ability to spread the ball around and run an efficient offense. She had 1,010 assists (8.9 per set) to go along with 64 aces and 336 digs as Orem won its second straight 4A state championship.

LIBERO MVP: Daxlyn Gammell Sr. L/DS, Salem Hills

Gammell was a tremendous defensive presence with 563 digs (5.5 per set) to go along with 43 aces and 496 service receptions (only 32 errors) for the the Skyhawks.

CO-COACHES OF THE YEAR: Matthew Moeai, Lone Peak and Bill Sefita, Orem

Moeai continued a long tradition of excellence in Highland, becoming the third coach in a string of five straight state titles. Sefita didn’t have an alpha hitter in the lineup like in 2023 (Sammy Blackett, now at UVU) but a well-rounded team that was solid in every aspect of the game that led to a second straight 4A title.

ALL-VALLEY FIRST TEAM

Cassidy Brinton Sr. L/DS, Pleasant Grove

Brinton paced the Vikings with 160 digs (2.7 per set) to go along with 22 aces, 53 assists and 213 serve receptions (3.6 per set).

Kylie Buttars Jr. OH, Skyridge

Buttars was one of the top hitters in 6A, finishing with 413 kills (3.9 per set) and hitting .254. She also had 89 aces, 175 digs and 395 service receptions.

Kali Carter Sr. S, Provo

Carter set up the Bulldogs offense with 920 assists (8.6 per set) and also added 73 kills, 41 aces and 296 digs (2.8 per set).

Hailey Clark Sr. MH, Maple Mountain

Clark contributed 221 kills (2.2 per set) while hitting .370, fourth-best in the Class 5A. She also added 63 blocks for the Golden Eagles.

Coco Denison Sr. L, Maple Mountain

Denison’s energy was key for the Golden Eagles as a team captain with 406 digs (3.7 per set), 27 aces and 481 service receptions.

Livia Eyre Jr. OH, Timpview

Eyre’s second straight appearance on the first team All-Valley list included 301 kills (4.4 per set) along with 47 aces and 203 digs.

Samara Hopoate Sr. S, Timpview

Hopoate kept the T-Birds offense humming with 617 assists (8.0 per set) and also had 49 aces, 28 blocks and 182 digs.

Brynlee Johnson Sr. MB, Springville

Opponents didn’t like seeing Johnson patrolling the net because of her 82 blocks. She also added 150 kills (1.5 per set), hit .285 and contributed 26 aces.

Molly Keogh Sr. OH, Westlake

Keogh led the Thunder offensive attack with 260 kills (2.7 per set) while hitting .238. She added 19 aces, 201 digs and 337 service receptions.

Kambri Kuhni Sr. MH, Orem

Kuhni had a great season and came up big for the Tigers during their state tournament run. She had 228 kills (2.1 per set) and hit .363 to go along with 77 blocks.

Nevaeh Magalei So. OH, Provo

Magalei followed up a brilliant freshman year with an even better sophomore campaign, totaling 445 kills (4.2 per set) 34 aces, 479 digs )4.5 per set) and 774 service receptions.

Aleah McDaniel Sr. OH, Pleasant Grove

McDaniel averaged 2.9 kills per set (175 total) and hit .224 for the Vikings.

Macy Melville So. OH, American Fork

Melville was one of the top young players in the state, totaling 351 kills (3.7 per set). She also contributed 35 aces, 20 blocks, 235 digs and 405 service receptions.

Mary Nahinu Sr. L/DS, Skyridge

Nahinu was steadying force for the Falcons with 364 digs (3.5 per set) to go along with 55 aces and 412 service receptions.

Scarlett Page Jr. L, Orem

It was back-to-back titles for the Tigers and Page was a big reason why with 430 digs (3.8 per set) along with 499 service receptions (with just 33 errors) and 68 service aces.

Sam Pope Sr. S, Lone Peak

Pope was a leader for the Knights with 534 assists (7.2 per set), 60 aces and 117 digs.

Taylee Reid So. OH, Spanish Fork

Reid was a big reason the Dons made a big push at the end of the season with 203 kills (1.9 per set) along with 30 aces, 205 digs and 398 service receptions.

Berkley Richards Sr. OH, Mountain View

Richards was one of the Bruins top players with 263 kills (3.0 per set) along with 37 aces and 112 digs.

Elle Richardson Jr. S, Mountain View

The Bruins turned it on during Region 8 play and Richardson led the way with 645 assists (7.2 per set), 87 kills, 50 aces, 37 blocks and 185 digs.

Averie Roundy Sr. OH, Payson

Roundy contributed 311 kills (2.9 per set) as well as 39 aces, 278 digs (2.6 per set) and 604 service receptions for the the Lions.

Skye Sampson Sr. OH, Salem Hills

Sampson was a strong compliment to Robbins and finished with 266 kills (2.6 per set). She also counted 71 aces, 27 blocks, 241 digs and 458 service receptions.

Madi Scott Fr. OH, Orem

Scott put together a fantastic freshman season with 375 kills (3.3 per set) while hitting .254. She also finished with 56 aces, 308 digs and 505 service receptions for the state champion Tigers.

Karli Smith Jr. OH, Maple Mountain

Smith maintained a high level of play with 248 kills (2.3 per set) along with 26 aces. She was also the Golden Eagles’ best passer with 200 digs (1.9 per set) along with 421 service receptions.

Nevaeh Tien Jr. S, Lone Peak

Tien shared setting duties with Pope, averaging 5.6 per set (411 assists) with 38 aces and 111 digs.

Taryn Wimmer Sr. OH, Payson

Wimmer was the go-to hitter for the Lions with 360 kills (3.3 per set). She also had 66 aces, 298 digs (2.8 per set) and 458 service receptions.

329 kills (2.9 per set), hitting .230 with 45 aces and 19 blocks.

McKynzee Beddes Sr. OH, Lone Peak
