Offensive MVP: Jett Niu, Sr. QB, Lehi
Niu displayed a calm presence in the pocket, making quick reads to get the ball out to the numerous Pioneer playmakers. He ended up going 195-of-341 for 2,857 yards with 29 TDs and just 10 interceptions, while adding three TDs rushing
Defensive MVP: Taaniela Makasini, Sr. LB, Timpview
Makasini was a monster athlete who had to be accounted for on every play or he would blow things up — and often did it anyway even when blocked. He capped an impressive year with 146 tackles including 17.5 TFL and four sacks.
Special teams MVP: Landon Goff, Sr. KR/DB, Lone Peak
Kicking to Goff was always a dangerous proposition, as he ended up with 596 kickoff return yards and 162 punt return yards, including three touchdowns. He was also valuable in the Knight secondary, coming up with seven interceptions and 55 tackles on defense.
Coach of the Year: Dustin Smith, Spanish Fork
Smith and his staff culminated years of effort and development in one of the best seasons ever for the Dons. He got his tough squad of hard-nosed athletes to make it all the way to the 4A state finals and come within a whisker of getting the school’s first title, losing in triple overtime.
2024 All-Valley Football First Team (alphabetical order)
Kaue Akana, Jr. WR/K, Orem
Akana had a knack for making big plays when the ball was in the air (79 receptions, 1,261 yards, 14 TD) while also being a reliable kicker for the Tigers.
Aaron Dunn, Sr. OL, Spanish Fork
Dunn used his size (6-8, 285) and length to open holes for the Don run game and give the pass game time to find gaps down the field.
Hutch Fale, Sr. LB, Provo
Fale put together another excellent defensive season for the Bulldogs, totaling 111 tackles with seven tackles for loss and a sack.
Aisa Galea’i, Jr. DB/ATH, Timpview
Galea’i could be found all over the field, whether on defense (82 tackles, 11 TFL, 3 sacks, 6 interceptions) or offense (358 all-purpose yards with 10 TDs).
Andrew Hillstead, Jr. QB, Timpanogos
Hillstead showed his impressive ability to move the ball through the air for the Timberwolves (255-of-418, 3,066 yards, 35 TD, 7 INT).
Kannon Huntsman, Sr. RB/LB, ALA
Huntsman continued to be one of the most impressive players in Class 2A, finishing with 1,990 all-purpose yards (173 carries for 1,076 yards with 13 TD rushing, 28 receptions for 790 yards and 11 TD receiving and 114 return yards). He also had 28 tackles, four sacks and two interceptions on defense.
Feleti Iongi, Sr. RB/DB, Orem
Iongi was the engine that made the Tiger offense go for most of the season, whether running the ball (165 carries, 1,389 yards, 15 TD) or pulling it down out of the air (52 receptions, 854 yards, 7 TD).
Brock Jacobsen, Sr. ATH, Spanish Fork
Jacobsen put together one of the great all-around showings in history, coming up with 89 receptions for 1,345 yards and 15 TDs as a receiver, 65 carries for 550 yards and eight TDs as a receiver, 81 tackles with two TFL and a sack on defense, and 588 kickoff/punt return yards on special teams.
Matthias Lesa, Sr. LB, Timpview
Finding Lesa usually meant looking in the opposing offense’s backfield as he was a nightmare to block, tallying 24.5 tackles for a loss and 14.5 sacks to go with 120 tackles.
Paul Latu, Sr. LB, Lehi
Latu was a force for the Pioneer defense who was always getting stops, ending up with 92 tackles and added 5.5 tackles for loss with two sacks.
Oliver Mackay, Sr. RB/DB, Provo
Mackay was an old-school running back who relished getting the tough yards or breaking free for big gains (250 carries, 1,688 yards, 26 TD).
Jayden Mayberry, Sr. DB, Lone Peak
Mayberry was such a shut-down defender that opponents stopped throwing his way entirely, although he still ended up with six interceptions (a couple of which he returned for TDs) to go with 50 tackles (41 solo).
Bott Mulitalo, Jr. DL, Lone Peak
Opposing linemen had their hands full against Mulitalo, who used his strength and athleticism to get to the ball carrier or quarterback (45 tackles, 16 TFL).
Austin Pay, Sr. OL, Lone Peak
A 6-foot-7, 280-pound senior, Pay proved to be a key leader for the Knight offense, setting the tone for his team as it made it to the 6A state championship.
Jaron Pula, Jr. WR, Timpview
Pula proved to be almost impossible to stop in one-on-one coverage and even two defenders often couldn’t stop him from making highlight-reel catches (79 receptions, 1,200 yards, 8 TD).
Carson Rasmussen, Sr. QB, Timpview
Despite having his season cut short by injury, Rasmussen still had tremendous numbers in both passing (142-of-209, 1,997 yards, 19 TD, 3 INT) and rushing (51 carries, 383 yards, 5 TD).
Zeden Selu, Sr. RB, Skyridge
Selu knew how to hit the hole hard and rarely went down on first contact, churning through arm tackles or eluding diving defenders (203 carries, 1,117 yards, 20 TD).
Landon Shumway, Sr. LB, Mountain View
Shumway had another brilliant season as the defensive star for the Bruins, racking up an impressive 142 tackles with five TFL and three sacks.

Kaneal Sweetwyne, Jr. QB, Skyridge
Sweetwyne exemplified the challenges of stopping a dual-threat quarterback as he could tuck it and run (155 carries, 930 yards, 10 TD) or go to the air effectively (185-of-299, 2,675 yards, 19 TD, 16 INT).
Nusi Taumoepeau, Sr. LB/ATH, Westlake
Despite being the focal point of every opponent’s offensive game play, Taumoepeau was a force for the Thunder defense (88 tackles, 13 TFL, 13 sacks) and made a difference on offense as well (37 carries, 361 rushing yards, 8 TD).
DeShawn Toilolo, Sr. LB, Skyridge
Toilolo continued to be both an emotional leader and a dynamic presence for the Falcons defense, finishing with 10.5 sacks, 15 TFL and 57 total tackles.
Lisiate Valeti, Jr. RB/DB, Springville
It was rare to see Valeti ever come off the field for the Red Devils, particularly when injuries forced him to increase his workload both on offense (148 carries, 776 yards, 7 TD) and defense (82 tackles, 4 TFL).
Cade Wilkinson, Sr. WR, American Fork
Wilkinson drew a lot of attention from opposing defensive backs but he was difficult to slow down, finishing with 74 receptions for 1,065 yards and 11 TDs on offense and 356 return yards for the Caveman special teams.
Carson Wren, Sr. LB, Lehi
